Getting Mail / Packages in Ecuador

Hello All,
I'm addressing this to people who live in Ecuador. I am wondering how the mail works there?

Being from the states, and running a business here online, I rely on the mail system to send orders out. As well, what I do requires ordering ingredients to make products.

I'm concerned about being able to carry out my business in Ecuador. I'd like to know how reliable the mail is there. I need to know that I'll be able to receive orders I place, and that orders I send out will get to their destination.

Can anyone give me a heads up on mail in Ecuador?

The mail in Ecuador is pretty much the opposite from the USPS. Nothing gets delivered by mail here, but rather by nationwide couriers like Servientrega. International mail takes forever. A letter to US - about 10 days. Even longer if it is Ecuador bound. To get anything (mail, personal stuff etc) in Ecuador is easy, many companies offer this service, they give you an address in Miami, then send over to Quito and you pick up from their office, fairly reliable. From here to the states, not many options besides Ecuadorian post and couriers like DHL.

Okay.. so I am gathering that a mail order business selling products and shipping them out from Ecuador to other countries is not going to be feasible.. Not great news for me. On the other hand, it sounds as if getting products in TO Ecuador works fairly well, which means the only way I might be able to continue this business is to sell only to the people in Ecuador. Oh boy. Thanks Mango.
