Hi, hello, Ni hao and ey up muckers.

I'm an English chappy interested in contacting ESL teachers from a variety of non native English speaking countries.

I should note at this point - This is just an idea and only half planned so don't get excited.

It strikes me, students learn standard English but not how to speak English with other non native speakers.
I would suggest interaction between kids would promote a general understanding of other cultures while livening up a classroom.

My plan would be to use Skype to establish an audio video link so the kids could ask each other questions about their native countries,

Opinions welcome.

Cool idea, but wouldn't work with the kids I work with...almost none of them know how to use a computer.

Hell, I've got teachers here that don't know how.

But a cool idea.

We used to do the same thing, years ago, before computers with overseas penpals for our students.

I was thinking in class groups rather than one on one.

My intention was to use my netbook with it's webcam but a projector so the whole class can see the other class. An external sound card looks after mics and radio mics so the whole class can ask questions or chat to the other class.
A pair of speakers takes care of the class hearing their new friends.
