There may be 5 ***** hotels springing up all over Tripoli, but they are target towards business travellers. Since the end of sanctions, western participation in particularly the oil & gas sector has increased exponentially and the new hotel building is a response to the business traveller, not the tourist.

Tourism is still at a very basic level. Very few tourists are able to visit Libya independently as a result of the very strict tourist visa procedures, which require a tourist traveller to book on a group tour via a travel agent. The tour party is then herded into coaches to do the rounds of Sabratha, Leptis etc. Maybe even half a day shopping on the upmarket Gargaresh Road? pmsfl !!!!:lol::lol:
