Hi shipping depends on how much you are sending. I once moved a whole house full of goods and recently a large container. In both cases many items "disappeared" and prob as Malaysian port workers just take anything they can sell as security so bad. So make sure you are insured and photograph all items and try to have proof of ownership as my experience of shipping company insurance is that they are worse than pirates lol.

What you will find that whoever is on the front end they just subcontract to shipping companies you never heard of. So just shop around.

As for banks it is best to have an account with the same bank as your employer as interbank transfers area bit unreliable. I use maybank for my main account for that reason. To open an account you need a work permit! Sometimes employers can assist in opening an account before you get the wp as you need an account to get paid and wps take one to two months to process.

The easiest account to have is a savings account with a generic visa or master card debit card (these are unnamed ones and issued on the spot). Credit cards require 3 months salary slips as well as wp and so far maybank and citibank have issued me with cards as an expat. standard chartered refused so seem expat unfriendly.

Have fun moving!

Hello there,

you could try to contact Malaysian French Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MFCCI). The organisation has helped/ assists  many Expat (French or non-French) in dealing with moving in-out, opening bank accounts, setting-up companies, work permit, etc..
