Hi everybody.
I'm also a foreigner living in Norway and I know all to well of the struggles experienced by so many of us when we move here.
I would just like to say that I totally agree with everything MamaPanda has said, it is totally accurate. It is almost impossible to survive here without a Norwegian for support (emotionally and financially). I never would have managed on my own, but then I probably wouldn't have moved to Norway in the first place if it wasn't for my boyfriend
I noticed that many of the people on this thread are Indian people wanting to come to Norway. If I may ask, why is that? Why do you all want to come here?
Also, Mehender D, I think what you said is rididulous and shocking. OF COURSE people prefer to communicate and work in their own language and is that suddenly racist? And is it a crime to be proud of and want to continue with one's own culture? You are the reason European people don't want to hire foreigners, you want us to change for you, when really it should be you, the guests here, changing for us.

Lets not forget that getting a norwegian man/women just so you could live here is using a otther person for your own needs. Thats just idiotic.
I belive that alot of people choose norway becouse of the "rich","worlds best country "," worlds safest country" storys that norway is know about, thats about it, most of them dont care about the culture, society, nature they just want wealth.
Offcors having yuor own culture and language, you must be proud of it, but if you choose to come to another country and live there and become part of the society you MUST know theyr language and must respect theyr culture becouse its what that country is about. Lets not forget how it is if cristian people moves to muslim countrys and trys to live by theyr culture, they will probobly gona get killd. So is it fair? And no European people dont have to change for you, nobody forced you to come here and especially not accept our culture. If you dont like it than just move back, its simple as that.
Hi dzekins,
I agree with everything that you have said but I just want to clarify what I meant about my boyfriend.
I'm from Ireland which is a fine country and I was happy there but then I met the love of my life, a Norwegian, online. I have moved here to be with him and I miss my home country a lot. I'm not using him to be in Norway (sometimes I think I'd prefer to live in Ireland), I just meant that before meeting him it never occured to me to move to Norway. He is the only reason I am living here. If we broke up I would probably move home. I am not using anyone. Just wantd to clarify that..

Its alright, i wosnt telling it to anyone personaly im just saying that there is alot of foreigners that uses norwegians just for theyr own good.
Dzekins - I think you have missed the point. Sure, perhaps lots of people do come to Norway to live with a partner, or maybe are really pretending to do so just to come to Norway, I don't know. But to do that in other countries is A LOT easier than it is in Norway. So on this thread some of us were trying to point out that lots of people are interested in globe-trotting, but that one of the more difficult places to try to settle is Norway -- whether or not you come on your own, or come with a partner. Norway is not a very open country to immigrants, despite what some politicians and people singing the Rainbow song might want us to believe. I have lived here for 7 years and do speak Norwegian and have tried my best to learn the culture but it is STILL tough. I am still an outside and I still have trouble finding jobs.
Tillukka - regarding Indians wanting to come here, I'm afraid there is a great scam going on (I've actually written UDI about it). There are companies working in India (I'm not allowed to give names here, but send a personal message if you want to know) using very aggressive tactics and selling job seeker visas to people and falsely informing them that it is easy to get a job in Norway with tech experience. They promise that NAV will help them find a job (ha ha!). Of course UDI does not "sell" these visas. It's a bit sad really, that so many people are being tricked into wasting all of their money on a pipe dream.

No i understand the topic here, i just replyd my thoughts about what i heard from posts here.
Yes its definetly not easy to start in Norway and i would say its only for the best. I know i probobly sound rude now but it really is. It dosnt let the society trash up fast, which is already happening but not as fast as otther countrys.
Its great that you know the language and are fallowing the culture but what i sayd was ment to people who dont.
Yes, Norway might not be the most frendliest imigrant country in the world but if it would be than it would end up as UK have, imigrants gona take over jobs, bussines, propertys and so on until the actual natives gona become minority. So i belive its for a reason Norway isnt that open, and good for it.
It's a bit sad to see that you think other cultures "trash up" a society. I'm not in agreement with you there. No country - not even Norway's - has a 'pure' culture. Norway wouldn't be what it is today if it weren't for the influence of Germans, English, Scottish, Portuguese and yes, even Danish and Swedish-- all of these traditions you claim as Norwegian are coming from a lot of sources in the past! So even 100 years ago, Norway, as anywhere else, was a big "trash bag" of cultures.

No that wosnt what i ment, i love different cultures and i do like to meet people from diferent cultures, the issue is that when alot of foreigners come to a country and start working there they start to take away workplaces for natives, take over native bussines start pushing in theyr own cultures(which no country likes)and so on, so from that on the natives start to feel different towards imigrants and that dosnt matter if you are a good imigrant or a imigrant that just uses the country for its own needs, society will look at us all. 2cond is that when alot of people join a country and they cant find a work they will end up on streets, especially people from poor countrys. That will raise criminalism, drug addictions and so on. Now thats what i call trashing up the society, becouse alot of people belive that its really easy to just move to a country and gona earn sh¤t loads of money but once thye are here they find out how hard it is.
My work is outside work, and time to time i have to work at nights and i must say most of the people that wonder around drugd or on alcohol is imigrants. Look at polish people, in europa people have stereotype that most of them are criminals, Why? becouse alot of them work in construction and once they loose theyr jobs they start stealing.
But offcors there is good people, and not everyone is like that. But you must admit, most of criminal people are imigrants, and thats not only in norway.
MamaPanda you are doing a great job here getting people back to reality again instead of keeping living the dream ! as much as it disappointing it may seem to some who have already applied for job seeker visa or still going through the process it is really hard to get a job in Norway for foreigners ! Iam a 27 Civil Engineer with 3 years experience. They have told me that speaking the Norwegian language isn't essential for people seeking a job in the Engineering field but this is simply isn't true.I have been planning to move to Norway , for the past 2 months i have been trying to apply for jobs over finn site my application got rejected in some jobs because other candidates had more experience but mostly the recruiter stated through the mail that they rejected me because i don't speak Norwegian.Norwegian isn't a common language and they expect people to speak it before they get there and even if people do and you get there people will still face the problem MamaPanda talked about which is they prefer hiring Norwegians or people they know instead of hiring foreigners , so good luck overcoming this two huge obstacles ! Mamapanda said something that i really admired and i quote " its too hard to live in a country where everyone is rich and yo are barely surviving.Good luck everyone but i know for sure i will keep applying online until i hit luck because i don't want to feel later i wasted mt life , money or have been treated with racism.
Hey dzekins , take it easy man ! Norway only allow Visas for skilled workers which means if they have been granted this visa permission it will mean that is only because the country needs their speciality which means they will contribute the prosperity of the country not trashing up the society.I live in Qatar btw which is a very wealthy country even much wealthier than Norway and there are lots of foreigners here and they don't have to speak Arabic to get a job here
MamaPanda well said

Yes i gues i did get to offtopic. I was speeking more globly rather than just Visas. Yes but isnt that becouse of high construction work in your country? So they need workforce?
It's not because of the high volume of construction works. But i think it's quite unfair to expect someone who has just relocated to another country to speak the language , especially when this language isn't widely spread anyway.I mean Arabic is the second most used language in the world but yet people here don't have to speak Arabic to get a job.Honestly most of them never learn it ! English is a universal language so it can always be a substitute to communicate with foreigners.

Hello everyone!!
I am Bhavesh from Baroda. I have studied civil engineering and have 2 years work experience.
I am planning to go to Norway on Job Seek Visa but after reading all the reviews especially MamaPanda's reviews, I am afraid to go there. Is it possible to seek employment in areas such as bars, cafes, etc if I wont get a job in my field? Will I get the 3 years residence permit if I will work in these areas?
Bhavnesh,
Poeple have tried to come to Norway with Job seeker visa, and as they could not obtain the professional jobs, they have tried to get job in bar or cafe & applied for the three year resident permit. Norwagian govt has realised this and called this as an abuse to the visa rules. Below is the article published in the news paper:
http://www.dn.no/forsiden/politikkSamfu … 379329.ece
Please translate to english and read.
Good Luck.
Hi Mahender! Thanks for the link you have posted.
So that means working in bars and cafes for residence permit is like abusing the visa rules. Has the govt. of Norway stopped giving residence permit to those who work in bars, cafes, etc? If they have stopped then it's too bad because doing such jobs is the only way left if one cannot find job in his/her field of study.

i hv done m.sc in biotechnology. please tell me the scope of biotechnology in norway? actully my uncle is living in oslo having pr and their grocery shop. if i got visa cn i work in their shop??
what ever MamaPanda, Ashraf Mamdouh & Mahender is telling is exactly correct.
it is v.difficult to get a job in Norway for foreigners..
I have already experienced in Norway for a period of six months in a job seekers visa and did n't get even a call from any company even though I am holding Masters degree with 10 years of experience..
please dont waste your time & money in this country...
plz try some other country...
I have already mentioned my bitter experience in Norway in my blog...please dont be another victim...
Prem2012: I am so sorry. Even though I speak Norwegian and have a PhD it took me 8 years to get a permanent position. People who come on a job seekers visa don't understand this, even though we try to tell them. Thanks for sharing your experiences so that (hopefully) others can understand the reality here. I wish you the best.
Mama Panda,
Even after reading the blogs and bitter experience from different job seekers, they still come here to find their fortune unless they experience it with their own eyes.. Mostly all think that I have enough experience and many master degrees that will really help to get a job in Norway. The fact is, none of the experience or education from different countries is going to help without Norwegian language fluency with in 6 months.Infact, the most funny part is, many ask them to help in order to get job seeking visa in Norway after reading the blogs or bitter experience..
Dear All,

hi all
i have been to norway on a job seeker visa, on arrival they will give you 6 months permit to search a job , and if you are successfull then your visa will be extended.i am SAP basis consultant with more than 4 yrs of experience.
but
there are lots of jobs over there but we dont stand a chance unless we speak norwegian language fluently.
they say "this is english speaking job but we consider people who can speak norwegian fluently". so i lost on the visa and completed my 6 months tenure.nevertheless i took this as a learning experience and might be of some help to others.
so i dont discourage people for their steps taken in lives rather i try to show them the right direction
things to be done :: learn and be fluent in norwegian language then INSHAALLAH u might succeed in kracking a job over there
all the best
Many Thanks Majid

finding the job
Hi!Friends,
I'm a Chemical Engineer by profession and specialized in Ceramics and Plastics manufacturing over a decade and currently working as "Factory Manager" in a local based plastic manufacturing plant here in Bangladesh.
At present, I'm exciting to get a voyage in Norway. However, one of my friends once told me that there is no formal migration process exists in Norway like for example Australia and Canada. Recently they have introduced a job seekers visa, which will allow to live 6 months and search for job. But that is quite risky as it will be difficult to find job without knowing local language and living expense is quite high in Norway.
What about the industry for Ceramics and Plastics manufacturers in Norway? Can I get a job over there???
Look forward to hearing more of someone backing.

Hi Folks!
I am preparing documents to apply for Norway's Job Seeker Visa. All others documents are ok except that my employer has only issued me a basic work-certificate mentioning duration and title (no details of tasks and nature). People advised me to just attach your self-written CV(Resume) along with it so that Embassy/UDI can know what I was doing. Do you people think it will work?
