There is a hotel we stayed at when we are in HCM.  This past October we noticed there was a Subway in the lower level.  It was a little more expensive than here in the US.
Beware of this hotel.  There try to charge you extra for things.  When we were checking out the couple in front of us were arguing with the clerk.  They were being charged for a broken door but they said the door was broken when they checked in.  We were then charged for breakfast when we were led to believe breakfast came with the room.

I'm not a fan of Subway but have eaten at a few back home now n then and if the prices are similar to that. I can't understand how they stay in business here. There are better sandwich bars around and cheaper :)

Preciselly my thoughts. There weren't too many customers when I passed by and the prices were way out of the ballpark when compared to VN Ban Mi.

KFC is way better than the previous VN fried chicken stores that were here (using skinny VN chickens) so their success is understandable.

I can't see where the Subway market is except those people who want to eat 'home' food when travelling.

Ditto with Starbucks since there are many great coffee shops here already.

Like taking coal to Appalachia.

Subway have been flooding the world with their cheap franchise. You can easily start one for 10 grand.

I think both apply to that, and having worked in kfc many many moons ago I doubt I'll ever step foot in one again.

Interestingly when I went to Australia a few years back they had tried to develop the market there, but failed. The locals continued to use\support there local places. Which is even more amazing as the oz coffee sucks really bad :-) I was amazed at how hard it was to find a decent coffee any where. That's saying something coming from the UK! Again Irather favour the indies over the corporates in this case more so if the stories of how they grew there business is true.

In the UK we have the same saying, but the town is Newcastle :)

Names and addresses, please, there are just under 1,000 hotels in TP HCM and many are run by decent, honest people. On the other hand a fair number are run by bums. These comments refer to guests, too! (Which is why I never use mini-bars and pay in cash)

A guest is responsible for unusual damage but not fair wear and tare.

A few unethical hotels make room staff personally financially responsible for missing items and/or damage so please don't go taking mementoes!

I was at Tan Son Nhat Airport a few weeks ago at the International Departure area. I noticed a Burger King stand there. Thought that was funny and was almost tempted to take pictures of it.

Anyone else notice Baskin Robbins Ice Cream shops opening up here? Saw one in District 1 near New World Hotel and another in District 3.

I didn't eat much of Subway when I was in the US. I heard the prices were high here because they use imported product so never bother checking out Subway here. There's plenty of better food for that same price you pay anyway.

anybody been to the Baskin Robs'? is it similar to home?

I've not purchased anything, but I did take advantage of the free samples they were giving out when they opened. Tasted ok and yes similar to home.
