Saigon India restaurant

We went to Saigon India restaurant - was recommended highly by someone.

The food was awful and the service was even worse. First the food was served cold, and when asked, the rationale was that the food was cooked in the morning, hence it was cold. The funny part is that it was not even warm...

We asked the food to be heated up (or atleast warm) and the food just disappeared. After waiting for more than 30 minutes, when enquired, they just said that they do not heat up the food.

Only after much argument did they deliver and not a word of apology. The manager almost made it seem that it was our fault that we had asked for warm/hot food.

Not sure if our expectations were higher, but generally I guess it is not too much to expect warm food in a restaurant. So fellow beings, SAIGON INDIA restaurant is BEST AVOIDED.

Did anyone else also had a similar experience?

I won't going there then! Did you pay for the meal? Where they indian or Vietnamese?

You expect hot food at a restaurant in HCMC in this day and age? My gosh, what's wrong with you?

I'm usually cautious when eating food thats not Vietnamese here. It's for one a big let down most of the time.

i never been there but i think ganesh in le than ton street is lovely, have you tried there??

When complaining about are restaurant, it always helps to provide the full name and address AND telephone number. This is because so many businesses use similar names.

Hopefully you didn't pay. (Or leave a tip)

You should report it to the city Health Department so they can check it out. In my experience very few Indian dishes are served cold.

ALSO POST IN TRIPADVISOR,COM, they have a large restaurant section for this type of complaint.

Pho 24 is another one to watch out for. The food is cooked in their central kitchens in the evening. Even the noodles. They are stacked in the open, not the refrigerator.

Starting around 04.00H in the morning their food is shipped out to all their branches where it is reheated and served when the customers arrive. Ideal system for promoting disease, but that;s OK, most tourists onlt spend 4 days here.

A lot of people take care especially when it's Vietnamese because hot, spicy flavourings can hide the smell and taste of food that has deteriorated, especially in the hot weather and  street vendors.

Being an Indian, i have visited several indian restaurants in HCMC. there are around 15 indian restaurants in HCMC. i must say, most of them are not authentic indian restaurant. the cooks are mostly local and they have no idea what they are cooking. i never visited twice in any restaurant. the services are very poor, the atmosphere is dull and gloomy, the food is nowhere near the expectations. only Ganesha and ashoka were good. as vilenin2012m said, i cook at home and i cook better. :)
so, i would say, dont judge indian cuisine after visiting the indian restaurants in HCMC.
one more point i want to add, whenever i visited those restaurants, i never saw any indian customer. the indian expats must know about the qualities of the restaurants. thats the reason why they never visit.

Yep, that are true words. After eating years frequently in western, Indian Restaurants, I was surprised the first time by a real home cooked Indian meal. Since then, no more Indian, unless HOME COOKED.

Having little clue about cooking, but I can judge, when I like it or not.

We just avoid eating out all together. We try not to make "food processing experiments" with ourselves. When we first arrived here we stayed for several weeks at the New World Hotel in D1 and they have a decent International Buffet there. Of course it co$t, but to us it's worth it. All the food is kept hot or cold, they have a great variety of choices, and are constantly changing the options. When you want a steak or lamb or pasta, they cook it in front of you, with fire...lots of fire :D. They have sushi bar in there too and a very big selection of yummy desserts.

We've had french, italian, japanese, vietnamese, spanish, and some indian food there and all of it was delicious. Never been sick or had something to complain about.

So, this said, whenever I don't feel like cooking or we are craving something yummy, we go there get our fix and stay healthy.

Ashoka, Saigon India, Ganesh, mumtaz, and baba's kitchen.

Baba's kitchen have chefs are from Kerala. They bring their own Indian cuisine to Vietnam, as a Vietnamese but I love Indian food. Ashoka two years ago have very good chefs all of them r Indians. But the Ashoka was changed chefs recently now I have no idea, my first and last choice always baby's kitchen ! The best! Over there have mutton curry with bone - pryani with bone also. I love curry with bone also they have whole crab curry. The chicken tandoori is super cool. All the vegetable curries also r very Gud.
