Hi all,

We invite all the ones who got married in Malaysia or who are about to get married in Malaysia to participate in this thread :)

What are the formalities to get married in Malaysia? Is it the same for a couple of foreigners of for a mixed couple (between a foreigner and a native of Malaysia)?

Are the procedures complicated?

How long does it take to carry out all the formalities?

Thank you in advance for participating,

Armand

Many people use marriage to get social visa or work permit visa.
If you are getting married with a local person you can do so providing you will provide a letter from your high commission that you are single or divorced.

Hi Armand, It depends on the religion of your spouse cause every religion have their own practices..

There are only two types of marriage

- Muslim
- civil (all other religions)

The rules differ for both and for Muslim you need to have attended  a marriage course.

The actual ceremony is irrelevant for legal purposes
