Hi Mr. Dickerman,

It has been a while since your original post, and I am hoping that you might check in to this site now, and again.  I am retiring in July 2016 and I am currently preparing to make a transition to a Latin American country to both allow me to stretch out my annual pension, and also enjoy the Latin culture that I have come to love.

Manizales is a city that appeals to me because of it's relatively small size, that fact that it is a "College Town, it's climate, it's overall beauty, and I have friends there.  I am hoping that you might share with me your experiences, and advice to someone who would choose to select Manizales as his new home.  I look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Hi Bruce,

I am also very interested in living in manizales and I know Mr. Dickerman personally. As of the last time I spoke to him he was currently living and spending more time in medellin although he still owns an apartment in manizales. I have been to manizales many times and grew very fond of the place.

Manizales is a very nice city to live and a very clean place with very educated people and I like the vibes. The only main down falls IMHO it is a very small town with limited opportunities for business and work. If your an expat that comes with all these ideas of opening a business you will find yourself very disappointed unless it is a teaching job or of that nature but even that the pay is not great.

I have seen many expats come and go and many have relocated to medellin for unkown specific reasons. Which some times makes me re-think that medellin just might be a better overall city to live due to its size and diversity and many more opportunities that manizales just can not offer. I also think that medellin also has many smaller suburbs and towns nearby that can afford you a more relaxed smaller town feel similar to manizales but still be close enough to medellin for shopping, entertainment and better hospitals and direct flights from and to the US just to name a few however manizales is still a very good choice.
