hi guys,

My proposed salary as medical technologist is 450BD/month inclusive of housing and transport. I am not sure if this amount is quite enough for my profession. I am a medical technologist and applied in one of the gov't hospitals in bahrain. Is this figure ok, since i have no idea what is the salary of medtechs in bahrain. thanks :)

Hello culture.shock.

Hello there. This money is NOT enough! Definitely NOT! You can barely live on it. In the 'worst' parts of Bahrain, you can get a flat for 150BD or so, and 300BD is just about OK to live on. You will not be able to save money. 450BD per month is £770 / €970 / $1200 per month. You should consider if this money would be enough for you to live where you are in currently. The life in Bahrain is not particularly cheap. How much you are going to spend will depend on whether you have a car, what is your lifestyle, where do you want to go to hang out, where is your office and how are you going to commute to your office (there are no public transports in Bahrain).

thank you Aurélie :)

BRIGHTON GUY: oopps... i think i wrote my statement wrong.. what i mean is, 450BHD with housing and transpo. you think this salary is sufficient for my profession since i have no idea how much is the base salary. thanks for replying by the way. ;)

What is your housing allowance and transport allowance and all other allowances you have? If you list the full package, we might be able to help you better.

I don't know what is the minimum salary in Bahrain, but have been told some of the locals live on 200BD a month. How they manage that is I don't know, but they live in boxes like hostel dorms.

my housing and transportation is provided with shopping trips as well. all i have to spend with my salary is food and other necessities.

If that's the case, then you will be OK. You might even be able to save a few quid depending on your lifestyle. But don't expect to be able to eat out every day.

Thank you for the infos. For someone who seldom cooks, i guess i should start getting used in cooking my own meal to save money.

That would be so wise.
