Hello- Coming to HCMC for the first time

Post new topic

Hi Guys,

To start with i would like to apologise to start a new string with a similar request. Though i read the othere strings, i would like to know some specific information.

I am joining work in HCMC on July 16, 2012 and will be reaching HCMC on July 15. I will be staying in company provided accomodation for the first 15 days and within this time i need to find a place to move into for atleast 1 year. I will be completely new in HCMC and dont know anyone there.

Request 1:
My office is in District 3 and i am looking for some decent/good accommodation around this area. My budget is 1,000 USD per month. Request help in finding a good flat either sharing or independent within my budget.

Request 2:
I would like to know a good restaurant where i should have my first meal in HCMC. I am a die-hard foodie and would love to start my experience in HCMC with some very good Vietnamese food.

Request 3:
I love to play outdoor sports and go for jogging, etc. I would like to understand if there are some clubs/forums i can join to participate in group activities.

Any other advise will be very helpful. Also, if you guys need anything from India, i will be glad to bring it for you, as long as it is not too expensive.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Cheers!!

Hello Arup!!

Glad to hear that you will be in such a beautiful city like Sai Gon soon.
About your first request, I personally think that it is expensive to stay in District 3. However, Phu Nhuan district is nearby and, therefore, a better place to consider. I am not sure about the price, but overall, house prices in Phu Nhuan district seems to be lower.

About request 2, I suggest NGON Restaurant (160 Pasteur, district 1) I was there one and the experience was great.
Another choice is BANH KHOT CO BA VUNG TAU. This is a chain restaurant so you can find one in different streets. However, I suggest the one at 258B Nam Ky Khoi Nghia street, district3, because it is quite on the way from the airport to the center.

For the last request, sorry, I can only suggest you go jogging on the parks. There are many big parks in the city so you won't get bored!! :P

Hope you experience a nice trip!! :)

Hi Arup,

For No.1, I think it's quite difficult with your budget. You should come and see. you can find more information in Classified colum of this website.
For No.2,Hoa Tuc Restaurant in Refinery alley will be one of the choices I reccommand you. It's at NO 74 Hai Ba Trung str. face of Park Hyatt hotel. You can read the review on trip advisory.
The 2nd one is street food in Ben Thanh Market (if you love to explore the variety and different taste of Vietnamese food).
I LOVE food too.

Hello everyone!

I thought i should thank all for giving me your inputs. It has now been more than a week in Vietnam and learning from your experiences really helped.

I have found a decent service apartment in District 1, visited a bowling alley, partied at Apocylyse Now, had Pho and Indian food at Namaste India, Indus and Tandoor. I also ate some very delicious Vietanames food.

I will keep posting if i discover something unique.

Until then,

Cheers!!
