Hi!could someone please tell me if baby and children stuff like high chair, crib, toys, clothing etc are easily available over there? trying to see what to pack and bring as our allowance for relocation was limited to just under 200kg!

is there a network or classifieds where expats sell their old stuff when they leave town?

thanks!

Decent quality baby & toddler products are available in Tripoli - there's a Chicco store down Ben Ashour Street and several others on Gargaresh Road.

We have an almost new Mamas & Papas rear facing child seat which is now too small (it's good for infants up to approx 10kg) and surplus to our needs, if you are interested?

Why not start a "Wanted" thread if you're looking for things?

hi Sandman,
thanks for your usual helpful tips.

i've got my infant seat and stroller - used previously by my first child (in fact, we currently blessed with 4 strollers at home!- each for a different function... argh which one to give up?!!) .  but, thanks for the offer anyway.

we are however, looking for one of those "Sit and Stand" Stroller - one child (the older) can sit or stand while the other (younger one) sits. kinda like a double stroller but with the added "sit/stand" option. didnt notice these until i have two kids recently. i would be surprise if the shop u mentioned has that?...

bigger items like crib and a good highchair cost quite a bit and i just dont know what makes more sense - to pay for shipping for the decent one i have now, if the shipping is going to cost just about the same as buying new. or, try to get rid of my current stuff and spend $ to get new stuff..

my problem is since i would not end up having enough allowance for a container, i will have to pay pretty steep price to DHL stuff or send as excess baggage (OMG! any idea what is the damage is like?)

after relocating several times, i learn that new dosent neccesary mean better - have to spend time shopping and may not end up getting what i what. plus, from i read on the threads (wasnt it you who mentioned..) good quality stuff there cost a lot.  i decipher that as: my other option is go for the cheapos, as there isnt anything in the middle of the road?

btw, what is the electricity voltage requirement there?  what kind of sockects? trying to think ahead of all the electrical appliances to stay or go...

Jin,

You probably can find what you are looking for, but it'll involve some trawling around place to place. Libyans love kids and spend a shed load of cash on accessories such as you're looking for. As I've said, Ben Ashour area and Gargaresh Road are the places to look.

XS baggage rates are 20 Euros a Kilo and DHL or other couriers are not much less. XS charges can depend a lot on your status level of your preferred carrier's Frequent Flyer programme. When my family joined me here from the UK, KLM charged me £1,000 for being 45Kg over - the going rate would have been £2,700 for this weight but I had a Gold card at the time and they reduced it by almost 1/3....:D

Electricity is 220V/50Hz and they use the round pin 2 plug sockets like most of Europe.
