Dear Expats,

Buongiorno, Come vanno le cose?

Albeit Ramadan serves as a spiritual time for MOST Muslims, a time to reflect on good deeds and partake in more, a time of piousness, there are always exceptions to the rule.

Recently there was the unfortunate News regarding the Filipina expat that was assaulted by two cops, in a police car, raped successively by both.

It is this kind of news that makes one disgusted at the human race in general, such hate crimes are still perpetuated. what was her crime? wrong place, wrong time.

it was known before that several "impostors" pose as officers and rob expats of their hard earned money, or worse. now we see that they were both actual, physical on-duty cops, charged with protecting the people, so it draws the question, Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? (who is watching the watchers?)

I read this on an Arabic website, here is a news clipping from Arab Times (link) regarding the updates:

July 28: Securitymen will soon summon all patrol officers who were on duty during the day a Filipino woman was raped by two patrol officers, and line them up for the victim to identify the rapists, reports Al-Rai daily quoting security sources.

It was published earlier that two patrol officers stopped a taxi for investigations and forced the Filipino passenger into the police vehicle, after which they took her to a remote location and raped her. Following the incident, the victim filed a case against the patrol officers at the nearest police station.

Sources revealed that investigations to identify the patrol officers have been ongoing to arrest them.

They added that during investigations, securitymen collected the details of all patrol officers who were on the duty on the day of the incident and summoned them to the police station so that the victim can identify the rapists.

it is good that local law enforcement is taking the matter seriously. it is worse than i initially thought however, for the first article i read stated the woman was walking on her feet and was stopped by the cops, here it says she was INSIDE a taxi!

At first I was going to use this post to tell the expat population, the ladies in particular, to not walk in remote areas, as they are most likely to be lurking there. but now, God help us.

Take care of yourselves ladies.

Ciao, legacy. Sto bene. Che fai di bello?

Thanks for this. Now, I may never leave my apartment, even if I do get a car and some free time. lol. No joke tho, this is disgusting and it's so sad that we have something else to worry about. Good thing I know I how to beat people up :P (So if any of you horrible people attacking women see me on a street, cross to the other side) :)

way2go MsJ!

the thing is, its like the country is setting up for this sort of thing to happen, as tasers and pepper spray are illegal!!

i was soo tempted to pick up an extendable baton when i was in thailand, but i was afraid id get caught with it and accused of being a crook of some sort.

u know what they say, better safe than sorry. so always do ur travelling in the streets at peak times when there are others i.e. witnesses around to offer a semblance of security.

im afraid that was one of the few italian phrases i picked up over there :S that and directions, how to go shopping, and asking for assistance, Per favore aiutatemi! :P
