Hello folks so last night I got stopped with the police and paid a 200000 don't fine for going through a red light. Ii now can't find my registration card and I'm not sure what to do, I forget if I left it with the police or not, I was pretty nervous not having a license I just wanted to pay the fine and get home. Any ideas as to what I should do? I'm in hcmc btw thanks

Broomptish,

I would look up the citation and find that particular officer to ask.  If not, then I would go to the place where I bought the bike from and see if they can help.

I have always made it a habit of photocopying documents. They are so easily lost or damaged by water.

Most CGST will accept a photocopy from a Foreigner. Same with insurance. For ordinary motorcycles that is.

I hope you remember what the vendors name was - even knowing the registration number, the district licencing office can help you get a new one, for money. The CGST computer has licence info tied to your registration.

It is not legally necessary to carry your passport & visa, either -clean photocopies are sufficient. Again, photocopies are sufficient. If they get pushy about it, just say your passport is getting renewed. (They have scans of your passport data page and your visa on the immigration police computer)

Excellent thanks guys well the police didnt give me a receipt or anything like that and I cant remember anything about them I just wanted away from them. First time pulled I got pulled twice in one night, first lot let us go, second didnt. I have a friend who knows someone in binh than police who is going to look it up for me, though hes not back in hcmc for a week.

What do you mean jaitch the vendors name? The person who owned the bike before me? The policeman? Or the guy I bought the bike from? I bought it from a guy who sells second hand motorbikes, and well I dont like the guy so cant go to him.

A vietnamese friend said theres a chance you can always pay police off but well its not really a permanent solution. Another says I must find a replacement somehow. I know people buy bikes without registrations for a cheap price, just not sure what to do going to wait to see what this guy can come up with in the police. Thanks for the info folks appreciated!

The person who sold you the bike.

He has an ID card that makes a replacement ownership easy

Do you have anything that says the unit was sold to you?

Check back with the CGST - most of them are decent, althogh larcenous, and it might be sitting in their district office waiting for you.

Quan 1 public office, BTW, if it occurred in Quan 1, is at 393 Tran Hung Dao, opposite the Main Fire Station.

Broomptish,

Sounds like you are stuck between a rock and a hard place.  As it stands, the cop that pulled you over is your only bet.  If you remember which corner and time that was, chances are you can find the guy.  But, proceed with a lot of cautions, my friend.

Technically, you are operating that motorbike illegally.  You might not want too many people, especially the cops around your area, to know about it.  There are a lot of issues that many of them can take against you, particularly the guy that "sold" you the bike.  Do you know exactly what I mean?

Be discreet.

Best of luck,
Howie

Know what your saying but the guy who sold me the bike does run a legitimate business though I'm thinking maybe he should have given me more paperwork with the bike,  I don't speak to him now for a few reasons so won't be going to him for help going to wait a week and see of this cop friend of a friend can come up with anything, thanks again.
