5 good reasons for living in Thailand

Post new topic

Julien

Hi,

if someone asks you the best reasons for making the choice to live and stay in Thailand, what would be your top 5?

Thanks in advance for participating,

Julien

I do not think that there are 5.

1. Many things are inexpensive, imported foreign foods etc. are not.
2. The weather is nice there is no snow, but lots of flooding in the rainy season.
3. The people smile, because they are thinking how much they can get from you.
This from a Canadian dealing with Thais for 40 years and living here full time now for 3 years and working here.

Here's mine

1.Inexpensive cost of living (except for housing)
2. Food - I love thai food. Mama Tom Yum  is to die for (exaggerated I know! ).
3. Shopping - who doesn't right?
4.Culture - I admire them for their dedication, family oriented, and respect for elders. <3
5. Way of living - Everything seems easy.

What i hate is the endless traffic which I do experience everyday.

Funny you posted this...around the same time I posted:

Five Reasons Why Thailand's Tourists Become Expats

If home is where the heart is, then in the course of my life, I have accumulated several homes. While I was born in the United States and will always be an American, I also have a deep affinity for Thailand and the culture. My wife is Thai, my children are Luk Krung, half-American, half-Thai, and after living here for sixteen years, I sometimes think in Thai. I now consider Thailand home and America my second home.

I must admit, sometimes I forget many westerners think of Thailand as an exotic, enticing country with a huge amount to offer. There are more international travelers than ever before, and I am certain there are still many who dream of visiting Thailand.

Living in Chiang Mai

Depends on Where in Thailand. I rate Chiang Mai is the top choice,

1. Friendly people.
2. Good weather, no flood, or if it is, only few days.
3. Good medicare.
4. Good Food.
5. Good transportation, recreation, schooling.

However the most important is cheapest place compare to Bangkok, Pattaya, Phukit, Hua Hin and Samui.:)

No racism? I believe we're looking at this issue with different eyes.

Are you aware dark-skinned Thais are looked down upon and passed over for jobs simply because of their skin color?

Do know there is a two-tiered pricing system in Thailand?

Ask Indians, Pakistanis, and blacks if they discriminated against in Thailand because of their skin color and background.

Have you ever met a Thai who is obviously poor and is angry because your are a foreigner, thus in their eyes, you are rich?

No place is perfect and I take the issue here with a grain of salt, but to say Thailand has "no racism" is simply untrue. Maybe you have yet to see it or experience it firsthand but Thailand definitely has racism.

I love Thailand for all the reasons

If you asked me this question 18 years ago when I moved to Thailand, I would give you 5 completely different reasons...but now here are mine:

1. Lots and lots of choices for nightlife and going out
2. Thai food, I just cannot live without it. 18 years ago and now my favorite is Kapao Gai (Hot basil with chicken)
3. Shopping (although not as cheap as it used to be)
4. Ease of travel (also not as easy as before as taxi drivers make such a fuss/charge you without meters, but if you lived here long enough, you can manage fine).
5. Simply an easy way of life here

friendlyfarang

Mine would be:

1. Thai people, friendly and respectful
2. The lifestyle, very simple and easy going
3. The Food, cheap, delicious and everywhere to be found
4. Beautiful nature, mountains, beaches
5. The weather, im Dutch so this weather is a blessing!

I_Love_ME
