The article doesn't say that the notes will be replaced.

Budman,

If that is the case, how am I going to get my banh mi, hey?  Please don't tell me that it will be an even 100,000 VNDs each.

nhung.scorpio90

I thought that it was suspended some years ago :"O Now I even hope I can have them to keep as a memory :-s

Budman1

@nhung.scorpio90 They were, but came back later as the current poly types, but they made the rest of the bill out of cotton. Go figure, only in Vietnam.

dathancna

From what i understand from the article they want to suspend the notes made from cotton and those who have it can exchange for the same exact value notes made of the newer material.

How can they get rid of 10k and 20k notes? unless everything in vietnam becomes so expensive that 100k is the cheapest things in vietnam?

Ridiculous!

Budman1

@dathancna "can exchange for the same exact value notes made of the newer material."

PLS provide the link for that information.

This is what I read and understood from the article:

"from January 1, 2013 both the bill denominations will no longer be valid in Vietnam"

dathancna

"From January 1, 2013, any individual or organization with the two above denomination notes will be permitted to exchange them for polymer made bills with equivalent valueat branches of the State Bank of Vietnam and at credit organizations, foreign banks and local State Treasury offices."

Doesn't the above says that those who have it can exchange them for the polymer made bills? The one that most of us are using now are polymer made bills and not the cotton made ones right?

What I understand is that they are just suspending the notes that are made from cotton? Please correct me if I'm wrong?

Budman1

Sure does. Thanks for the correction.
