Hi All,
I am a student in Belgium and I need to travel to UK for an interview. For that I need to apply for a entry VISA since I am a non-European. From what I read from the UK embassy website, I need to submit my biometrics at Brussels and then post all my documents to the embassy in Paris (along with my passport) and wait for an answer. Is that the procedure ? Does it take a lot of time to get a VISA and should I have a confirmed air tickets ? Because somewhere it was mentioned to wait for the VISA to finalize the travel plans whereas at another place it was mentioned to submit all travel document.
Please advice !
Thanks

I would advise you to follow the advice on the British embassy Paris website. If it says, DO NOT BOOK TRAVEL TICKETS / HOTEL RESERVATIONS, it means just that, if you go ahead and are refused a visa, then it is your risk as you cannot claim back your travel tickets / hotel costs from the embassy. My guess on the website is to submit docs supporting your proposed visit to the UK, eg interview details, funds you have in Belgium to pay for the visit, proof of legal residence in Belgium, proof of what you are currently doing in Belgium.

The biometrics are a pain, but are there because of the huge abuse of UK visas ie applicants changing identity when they are refused visas and applying again and "lending" their documents with valid UK visas to others who wouldn't qualify for the visas in their own right. You do biometrics once only, any further visas are issued with your biometrics taken previously.
