counter-Mui Ne

Hi all.

Here's my adventure. I left HCMC for some sea and tranquility: I needed to spend a couple of months working on something like a book.
Based on my blog friends' recommendations I headed to Mui Ne. I should've read Wikipedia at least. Mui Ne seems to be the most expensive place in Vietnam designed for Russian tourists. Some Vietnamese don't seem to understand English trying to use Russian. Russian manners, too: a juice seller on the street talked to me 'You!'; at the very first 24/7 net store they tried to overcharge me and didn't even try to say I'm sorry, etc....

Quite opposite to what I needed and expected. What I was looking for was:
a) a small inexpensive stand-alone house;
b) near the sea;
c) local food;
d) at a not-very-touristic place (I realize that probably it should be a somewhat expat area: I'm new to Vietnam);
e) South.

I'm not looking for a total solitude, just not crazy about boom-boom-bars and loud tourists.

Any information is highly appreciated.

Thanks a mil!(:

Phan Thiet
From downtown, head very slowly towards Mui Ne. Immediately after leaving downtown, you cross a bridge over he river (there is only one river).

Immediately make a right and follow around a left-hand corner and there are  nuoc mam (cham) fish sauce sheds on the right and a selection of economy-priced hotels on the left.

Between some of the sheds there are footpaths down to the beach. Only locals know it. No post card/glasses girls, no tourists and no loudspeakers.

Ha Tien
Take the sleeper bus (Futa-VND140,000) or seated bus (Mai Linh Express-VND120,000) to Rach Gia and then the mini-Mai Linh Bus (VND50,000) to Ha Tien. Get a taxi to the market.

On the R/H side of the market, half-way down on the R/H side is a new hotel. Free WiFi, dead quiet rooms at the back.

Fresh cooked food is available at the market. AT NIGHT, about 50 metres from the hotel. half-left, you will see tables set up and you can get a crab meal to fill you for VND40,000. Beer, too.

Lots of peace and relaxation.

Thank you Jaitch.
We tried that street in Phan Thiet, really nice cheap hotels.
But a hotel by some reason doesn't work for me.
I've read about Ha Tien, and I think Russians should be there already.
I tried Nha Trang instead. 'Touristic area' is terrible, but I found an option.

Almost anywhere tourists go are 'iffy', look at Pham Ngu Lau, TP HCM, in HCMC or the Old Quarter in Ha Noi!

Half of Pham Ngu Lao is under "No User Certificate transfer" as the City is reclaiming the land, in a nice way, which is long over due and will no doubt reduce tourist accommodation space - even when rebuilt.
