Hi all,
Anyone can share experience in moving stuff from Canada to Tripoli. I am more interested in personal, hands on experience in bringing stuff as i want to know the nitty gritty of the process including approx.cost for shipment (20 footer), hassles and money involved to get it cleared here etc or any other information that minght help to make it less painful.
looking forward to some positive feedback.....ok, just the feedback.

have a peaceful and cheerful 2010

Are you a clearing agent? Which company?

I am planning on bringing in a 20ft personal effects container from the UK in around April this year.

Imran Ayub

Well  i work in a refinery in Purchasing Dept and we have a custom clearance div and people are well connected on the port so they will definitely assist.

Sandman, are you going to be bringing your motorcycles?

Thinking about bringing one across...really depends on how much they'll rape me for duties and clearing

Imran Ayub

give me a buzz when it sails and the rest will be handled in the most professional way :)

Due to so little to do here I am bringing over one of my bikes (GSX R 750) to play around on. A friend is a worldwide logistics provider, will let you know what the fees / duties are.

Did you know there are plans to re-open the Tripoli GP circuit. A place to play.

I was quoted GBP 800 to bring over the same bike from the UK. That's seafreight, in a proper bike crate.

It's the duties payable at this end that scare me - I've heard up to 60% of the book price of the bike.

I'd be interested in getting a quote from your logistics contact...

You have been here long enough to know what the driving is like, I was going to ask if you were nuts wanting to ride a bike here, but after meeting you - no need

Theiman

Its all about select riding times  - Fridays during prayers etc - no cars on the roads! Lots of vacant roads out there + the re-opening of the track.

SM the 60% is on luxury vehicles ie Porsches etc. There is no duty if the items are coming in from select African/Middle Eastern countries. (of course you have to get them to those countires first).

Theiman - I was informed that sports bikes came under the same stupid duty bracket as Fezzers and Porkers, kinda crazy eh?

Clansman - you nutter! :lol::lol::lol:

Theiman

If so then I'll leave the '09 750 in Canada and load up the 2000 CBR 929 Fireblade , 60% of $2,000 isnt much to pay to releive boredom :D

Eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new Royal Enfield bikes...
