Assalamualaikum,

My cousin moved to Saudi Arabia last week and he alhamdulillah applied for his Iqama. It is being heard that there is additional 2400 SR being collected for new iqama.

Can some please help us with more knowledge on this issue. He just moved and 2400 SR will be huge sum on the pocket.

Please advise.

Jazak'Allah

New rule came in effect just one month back. 2,400 is the annual fee of labor card.

It's applied on companies but unfortunately expats have to pay b'coz their small company owners (kafeels) won't take the burden.

jazak'Allah brother...does this hold good even for the expats who are coming to saudi arabia for the very first time.

Actually this visa was negotiated for an amount which also included iqama. Now i get to hear that i need to pay..so does it mean we are left out so badly?

Whoever wants to have a labor card (the authorization to work) has to pay. So, it's applicable to new comers also.

As I said above, companies have to pay but small ones can't afford so that delegate it to employees. Your case looks like a free (azad) visa case. I'm afraid you'll have to pay it on top of the amount you agreed. The reason is simple: the fee came as a surprize on 01 Muharram 1434 -- some 1 month back.
