Does anyone know where I can find a new or used electric bike?

Thanks :)

dark_muka

You can find some bicycle shops in Vo Thi Sau street.

Vicky.vp

What district is that in? I'm new here, I don't know where that is. :)

dark_muka

It is located in Ward 6,District 3.

If you go up Hai Ba Trung to Vo Thi Sau, turn RIGHT (against the traffic).

Approximately 200 meters along, on the side opposite the park, there is a road Thach Thi Tan joining Vo Thi Sau. The store is a couple of meters past the intersection.

If you buy one: (1) Get a strong chain and padlock; (2) Take battery out at night (high theft risk); (3) No licence required.

When the battery eventually fails, do not change whole battery - there are cells in the battery that can be changed individually. (cheaper)

Bought my daughter one last year. Wear a helmet! And remember you aren't on a motorcycle!

Hi,
I am gg to HCM in Aug, would like to get a electic bicycle or mountain bike.
Can you advise what is the cost like?

Thank you

Welcome tan79wy!

I'll first congratulate you for posting on an EXISTING thread, instead of starting a new one! (What a concept!)

Check this website for your info. It's the most popular Vietnamese bike shop in HCMC:

There are several bike shops in Binh Thanh and also in District 8 on the road that runs by the river. The electric bikes are sold in pedal bike shops rather than motorbike dealers. There are probably other clusters about the place. I bought an Asama electric bike new to the point of still being in its plastic wrapping for 9 million from one of the D8 ones.

You can get motorbikes for less and you don't have to lug a heavy battery up and down the lift. However if like me you had never ridden a motorbike before then the electric bike is a good way of smoothing out the learning curve. Not needing papers or a helmet is nice too.

When new the Asama would do about 35 kph and had about 35k range. It has lost a bit of the zip now though and range is about 25k. I do weigh 85kg though. If you are lighter you will get better results. The only fault is a slow puncture on the rear tire which needs a weekly trip to a xe om compressor.

Hi JulesVn & Saigonmonkey,
Thank for the info.

I cannot ride a motorbike, have to depend on bicycle to bring me around HCM.

Buying an electric bicycle cost 9mil exceeded my budget.
I will be station in HCM for 1.5years only.
Will settle for a 2nd hand electric bicycle or new conventional bicycle.

Is there any used bicyle shop in HCM?

JulesVn

The standard Vn bike shops will have secondhand examples for sale. Prices will probably be 3million VND or so. Be aware that relability issues may ensue. The batteries especially may be faded. The same shops will sell you a shopping style pushbike for 1.5million brand new. A mountain bike will probably cost a little more.

The street in Binh Tanh with lots of bike shops is Bui Huu Nghia. The D8 street is Pham The Hien west of Duong Ba Trac.

Thx.
the info is really helpful.

Buy a new one, its only 450 usd, then sell it for around 5 million, all up its cost you 200usd for 1.5 years of transport

Hi colinoscapee,
are you saying i can consider to buy a brand new electric bike and sell it after 1.5 years? I never use an electric bike before, can it travel from District 1 to 5 or 7 without recharging?

Anyway thank for the info. I should really consider what is the best mode of transport for me.

Jaitch

Those are question you need to ask at the shop, Im sure if its fully charged there would be no problem.
