Learning Maltese??

Here is the website from governmental Lifelong Learning Directorate which offers very cheap courses (not only for Maltese language). Best if you visit your LC and ask for relevant courses.

In addition to this there are also a number of other parastatal or private institutions like this who offers lessons in smaller groups and practicing better pedagogic methods (... as I've heard ).

Unfortunately I do not have own experience with any of these institutes, since I first try to improve my English, and for this I take weekly private lessons in a small group of 4-6 students.

yes we have been on them and its a good way to get a grounding on the maltese language.

Yes easy to get the information from the local council...costs were about 35-40 euros per person and the course consisted of two times a week (ours was mondays and wednesdays) 4pm for 90 minutes each and an informal atmosphere with a group of likeminded people, local teachers. very informative. and they ran from october to may....we had to get registered in september for the course...however dont let that put you off...as the courses do regularly empty as the course progresses when people find that it is a difficult language to learn and drop out...persevere and you can win through - i do have to say it was a good base for knowledge of the language and origins of words etc.  I am not great at languages i just have a good memory with words.

Getting information from the LC is very easy, just go there and ask ... but take care, it's possible that you chat for 1 hour since everyone in Malta is very curious about foreigners, private stuff etc.

I take private lessons (in English, but they are offered in Maltese) which take place 3 times a week in the evening for different levels. You pay as you go - and since it's a small group of flexible people (without the intention of making an exam) one can bring up own ideas and topics of interests.
