After 2 months of private one on one English lessons, my fiance still doesn't know a word of English. Her teacher is Vietnamese I believe and probably teaches the basic structures of English such as verbs, vowels, past tense and such which is probably confusing her. She also dropped out of school at the age of 12 so schooling is not her forte lol.

But she's putting an honest effort into learning the English language. I'm just wondering if there's other creative ways to teach her English besides drilling the fundamentals into her lol.

If there's any English teachers in Bien Hoa up for a challenge willing to tutor her I'd be interested in hearing how you would tutor her and we can iron out the rest of the minor details.

Forget fundamentals. You want her to communicate with you, not pass an English test.
Do simple phrases.
We don't use more than 200 words for everyday communication. For someone who has not done much schooling, you need patience and understanding.

I will dig up a list of on-line web sites and post them for  you.

Think how you learnt Vietnamese. You wandered about listening to your mother and father talking. You 'sensed' the 'hot' words (like No!) all without a book in your hand. You couldn't even read!

While not wanting to appear racist, I have spoken with several of the English language graduates from Ho Chi Minh University, with courses taught by Vietnamese but they can't speak colloquial daily English, por carry a conversation.

The average English speaker actually uses about a thousand words in daily life and up to 4,000 for sophisticated users.

If you can learn Vietnamese, you sure can learn English!
