Hi, Im experiencing great difficulty in getting the  HSBC Iban number accepted by the Overseas Pension Department, I have been given 2 different numbers now and when I phone the UK Pensions, both of them come up invalid... Both of them had 31 digits, has anyone gone through the same problem.... please advise, we arrive on the 20th February with pensions payable on the 31st January.

Toon

just checked mine and they have 31 digits

Hi
Our HSBC IBAN is formated as follows

MT93 MMEB 4468 0000 0000 **** **** ***

THE FIRST LOT ARE THE BANK / BRANCH /MALTA codes the remainder * the account number.

The SWIFT code is MMEBMTMT.

Hope this helps.

Sorry for hijacking your thread flyingpommy...

Out of interest how do you go about sorting out the UK pensions?

That's one of the big worries the wife has and really want to put her mind at rest.

Thanks

Toon

be aware that if you remit your pensions to malta it could be classed as taxable unearned income and could be subject to tax - would advise to seek information about the double taxation treaty....

Hi, you phone the Pension Services and quote your  NH Number together with your bank details (if in Malta) your Iban Number, its quite simple and they are really helpful. I have been onto them about 10 times trying to get things sorted out...

Hi flyingpommy,

there seem to be different codes.

I have an IBAN MT82MMEB44082XXXX....... 31 digits !

The BIC code is the same .

Cheers
Ricky

Hiya, unfortunately have to as its our main income and have to prove to the government (especially with the new residence permit) that we can exist on this. Dont know how we are going to manage without ID's but will sort it out when we get there hopefully

Thanks Terry, but I think I have to contact HSBC again (costing a fortune in phone calls to Malta and UK) but they must sort it out, other wise I have to find another bank...

Ask your bank to email the IBAN  number to you minus the account number (for security ) then add the account number yourself and phone it through to the pensions department.

well not really as long as you prove that you have income it doesnt matter where its located - well it didnt 4.5 yrs ago when we got our residency here - we didnt have anything in a euro account anywhere - and still dont keep a lot here - they just want to see that you have capital or some form of income equivalent to the minimums to survive...i cant believe that that has changed - unless anyone can say different?

am not saying you should or shouldnt - just to be careful and do your homework on the basis of your needs and what makes you feel comforatble  - but make sure you know what the implications are - dont want anything to come back and bite you later

flyingpommy

Have already done this, even received the original one in the post but still invalid... dont know whether its a fault with HSBC of the Pension Service, either way it doesnt help us..
