Onceupona Kiwi

Think twice about coming to NZ. I am a Kiwi, had always considered NZ "home". Come back come back they invite you to do, my gosh, what an eye opener. Bitterly dissapointed with my own kind who used to be so fair to others no matter who you were but how now they so stick to their own kind. Housing is so overpriced for what you get, jobs are tough to secure unless you are NZ Qualified or a Kiwi yourself although thats not so true either as I myself, have had a very tough time finding work  having worked overseas for many years let alone my husband who of course is not a kiwi. Most jobs ask him how he will deal with the Kiwi physique which puzzled us at first that an "employer to be" would even ask this question but now we get it! Im not sure I even can deal with the Kiwi physique it its as foreign to me as the day I stepped foot into a different country to live many years ago. So much for staying a true blue Kiwi at heart. The proud Kiwi who held its country dear and close to heart. Come down here for 6 months first before you decide. May sound expensive but it may just be way more expensive to get here and be trapped!

Oh dear - sorry you feel that way onceupona kiwi. Sounds like you are having a hard time. What brought you "home"? And which part of NZ are you in? It must be difficult to come back to a place you used to live and see it's changed. I have heard of this reversal culture shock and it can be harder coming back than going. I feel that the longer we are here (we're Brits in NZ) the harder it will be for us to go "home". Friends and family beg us to return, but it's interesting hearing posts like yours....Hang in there, hope things improve soon.

What excellent advice.

What brought you home and do you think you'll stay?

Sorry to hear your story Onceupona Kiwi, maybe it is no consolation to you but I hear the same of a lot of returning Kiwis and it is equally hard for ex-Kiwis to return and fit back in as it is for the new migrant. It seems that by being overseas and expanding your horizons a lot of folks 'outgrow' NZ and the shortcomings become more apparent.  Coupled with the fact that many Kiwis seem to be very resentful of their own for having had the temerity to leave and overseas experience really doesn't count for much in the job market.

I hope things pick up for you and you can find your niche.
