Hi there! My name is Joanne (or Joanna, or Jo, whatever matches your fancy)

I'm korean who just came from Hong Kong to learn Vietnamese in Hanoi.

It's only been 3 weeks, and I'm bored... I want to mingle with people

I can speak English, Korean, Chinese, and very basic Vietnamese.

Hope to here from you all soon!

Michael.zafar

Hi, I will suggest Ho Chi Minh as well, the life style here, the people and almost everything is different. I do believe that the conditions in Ho Chi Minh will help you to learn Vietnamese faster and you can enjoy the life here is well. I learned Vietnamese here.

I'm aware that Ho Chi Minh will be more convenient for me. But I've already settled here in HaNoi. Maybe in the future. :)

It's warmer down here; the people are friendlier; and the food and fruit better.

It's why so many Hanoians move here! And there is a LARGE Korean group here with genuine Korean supermarkets (Lotte)

neargo0pie

i really don't mind hanoi :D i think its a great place to leave. personally i needed the change. Hong Kong is convenient and all, but the city life was getting to me. I've been leaving in cities my WHOLE life. and i'm kind of sick of it.

Plus I here Hanoi is developing with a fast rate. so who knows?

neargo0pie

i'm sorry! i meant "live"

hacsam

HI WHAT IS YOUR JOB IN HANOI, CHINA GIRL

neargo0pie

@hacsam

Lol... hi hacsam. Again I came here to learn Vietnamese( so i'm a student). and I'm Korean, not chinese

hacsam

I am sorry, I confused you with chinese girl.so, which university are you learning,. I am chinese boy, but have studied vietnamese one year in hanoi,

neargo0pie

Just University of Hanoi, learning in the Vietnamese Center there

Johanna Lee

Well, that confusion...I saw many people from Hongkong mos of the time recognize themselves Honkongese rather than Chinese...though we know their nationality is Chinese

hacsam

hjhj, dai hoc hanoi ,co rat nhieu ng hanquoc va thang nhat ban hoc o do, nhung ma anh cam thay ng han va ng nhat hoc tieng viet kho hon ng tq ,hehe

Mark Adams

Hi Jo,
I moved over to Hanoi a number of months ago. I'm finding the language difficult to pick up and am tired of confusing locals with my poor pronunciation.

I think practicing Vietnamese with other learners is more productive than learning by myself. Are you studying Vietnamese as part of a university degree? Or is it an open language center that anyone can join? If so, how are you finding it?

For entertainment, I tend to go to Hanoi Rock City and a number of different cafes and good restaurants at the weekends. If you'd like any recommendations, or if you'd like to help me with my Vietnamese, let me know.

hacsam

HEHE, NGUOI HONGKONG COI THUONG NG DAI LUC TQ, CHO NEN NGUOI HONGKONG TU XUNG LA NG HONGKONG CHU FAI FAI LA NG TQ.

Just arrived and you manage the admirable feat of insulting the Vietnamese by subtly implying their capital is not even qualified as a city and trusting that it being one soon!

Good job!

@anatta

Oh! I'm sorry, I didn't mean it to come out that way.
But you know, you don't have to be so blunt about it. Have you been to Hong Kong? I'm sure people who have lived/traveled there once will also know and agree to what I'm saying. just because A Place Is A City, Does not mean all of them are the same.  What I meant to say was that I was sick of the lifestyle in Hong Kong and I needed a change.
And the developing part, What I say is true, And I believe that Hanoi will go through a drastic change over the years. and Why is that such a bad thing? You make it sound like Hanoi won't change at all.

Again I'm sorry if I offended you, and trust me, I wasn't trying to be insulting.

neargo0pie

Hi mark. I'm sorry I can't help you there. It's only been three weeks for me.  I'm learning level a1 Vietnamese in the Vietnamese language center in Hanoi university.

I agree with u though Vietnamese is hard. Especially the pronunciation.

I heard of Hanoi rock city, and really would love to go there sometime!

Been myself all over the world, HK included. Right now, typing this message from Europe.

The part about Hanoi growing by itself is not a problem. However, saying it while giving the impression that Hanoi is a backwater town is like saying to a guy asking you for a date "Sorry, you are not in my league yet, but you are a hard working guy, so I am sure you are there soon".

A compliment giving in the wrong context is worse than none.
