Living in Hong Kong

Post new topic

mehdi_2566

Hi my friends,

I have planned to study in Hong Kong and I have an admission with 1800 USD (monthly) fund from the university. But I am married and I heard a lot about high rental cost in HK. Does this amount of money enough for a couple to live in Hong Kong? I don't expect a luxuriant life. A simple life (without financial problem) will be fine.

Please help me
Thank you all,
Mehdi

It's possible to live on such a small amount of money, but you'd have to find a tiny closet of an apartment and live like a monk.

1800 USD (monthly)? I assume that would be sufficient for living in Hong Kong. My monthly expenses inclusive of accommodation, traveling n food totals less than 10k HKD. I would say the major expenditure comes from housing.  O focuses as Hailey said the quality of living for an apartment under 10k is not so good.  But you can find school sponsored dormitories if you try.

It is 1800 USD. but we are a couple. Is it possible for my wife as a foreigner to find a job there? she has some experience in insurance and accounting

Unless you have specialist skills, it is very difficult to find work in Hong Kong that doesn't require Cantonese.  Accommodation is the biggest expense.  Cheaper accommodation is available further out, perhaps you should look in the New Territories.  There are lots of websites with rental prices that will give you an idea of costs.

Hi, I'm planning to get relocated to HK shortly.  The cost of education to kids and accommodation is more or less taken care by the employer.  Apart from that, about HKD 30000 would remain.  Just to know how comfortable one can live with that ....
