I feel for you - I had the same problem in KUWAIT - i EVENTUALLY HAD TO GET MY EMBASSY INVOLVED TO GET BACK MY PASSPORT WHO INFORMED ME AND THE EMPLOYER THAT THE PASSPORT IS THE PROPERTY OF THE COUNTRY THAT ISSUED IT AND THAT IT WAS ILLEGAL OF THE EMPLOYER TO HAVE IT AND ALSO FOR ME TO HAVE HANDED OVER MY PASSPORT TO MY EMPLOYER.PERSONALLY I WILL NEVER AGAIN WORK IN THE UAE - IT IS NOTHING BUT SLAVE TRADE. YOU AS A EXPAT HAVE NO RIGHTS AND THE AGENCIES ONLY PAINT A BEAUTIFUL PICTURE OF HOW WONDERFUL THINGS ARE.THEY KNOW ABOUT THE ABUSES BUT PREFER TO TURN A BLIND EYE BECAUSE OF THE MONEY THEY MAKE.

MY ADVISE TO YOU IS GET OUT IF YOU CAN AND APPLY FOR CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP THE NORMAL WAY.

Mohammed Imran

Wow Wow Wow. Cool down panic girl.
First of all which visa you are in?
Secondly if you are a company employee even then nobody can take your passport, you are the only one who can have your passport with you. Its against the law to keep anyones passport.
What are the doc you are looking for?? can you clarify, would be able to help only if i know the whole picture.
finally chill and don't worry so much.

best regards
Imran
