Hi, sorry to trouble you guys again but I have a quick question are certified copies of a birth certificate from the USA accepted by the Maltese authorities when applying for residence or does it need to be an original?

Thank you in advance and for taking the time yet again to answer one of my questions!

Cheers

Original with certification and apostil (if there is no apostil in rhe USA then certification by a lawyer)

As far as I know.

I am asked to submit original AND copies.
That is clearly stated on the application forms.
See below to find the form applicable to you.

Thanks fellas!  Cheers for that.  It's appreciated. :)

As long as it has the raised seal and is signed by a registrar then it is a legal copy that will be accepted

I assume that is in lieu of an original.
Copies still have to be supplied by the applicant for departmental use.

Yes, if the original one has been lost then you have to pay to get a certified copy with the seal etc and then you need a photocopy for your residency application

Sorry guys, I still don't get it.
For the e-residence card application, do I need to bring:
1- the original and just some regular copies
2- the original and copies that are certified / apostilled
3- the certified /apostilled original and copies thereof

I am from The Netherlands, but the original documents are multilingual, including English.

Thanks!

Seat - to answer you

1- the original and just some regular copies

This is all we brought they copies did not have to be certified as they can do that there after seeing the originals.

Sorry if I caused any confusion, I was assuming that the person who asked the original question didnt have their original birth certificate and was asking if a certified copy of it would be acceptable instead

Thanks rainbow3 and scubaboy.  It's aright we're just both perhaps unnecessarily anxious of bringing originals and something terrible happening that's all.

When my wife & I stayed in Barcelona for a short while we nearly lost everything (passports, cash that was going to keep us for a few months, clothes etc) on our first day when we were lost in the sights and each other. A thief distracted me while his accomplice attempted to lift my wife's handbang. Luckily my wife turned around and asked him what he thought he was doing. He dropped it and they both walked off.  It was a close shave!  Anyway, originals it is then and thanks all for your help!

It is not the same but I have scanned and saved every document we have. (In several locations.)When travelling I always carry a wrist band memory stick with all our details and scanned documents on it.

Yes, good idea that, redmik.  Sadly I'm not as high tech but we're going to make photocopies of our important documents and keep them in different places.  Cheers for the tip.
