OK, for those of us heading to wherever you are now, what's the best thing to eat there, what will you miss when you're gone, what should we try when we visit...

In Catalonia/Barcelona....pa amb tomaquet, which is bread smeared with tomatoes and drizzled with Olive oil....bolets (mushrooms) in season....anything with shellfish if you like that kind of thing....coffee coffee coffee, and the bread in the mornings when it is still warm.  Oh, and of course creme Catalana...mmmmmmm  Sepia a la planxa is also to die for, this is cuttlefish usually grilled whole...OMG....and the baby pops (octopus) are usually amazing...back on shellfish....sorry.

For those of you who like pop...Schwepp's Spirit is really good, like bitter lemon in the UK...

For me it is Sancocho.  It is a 7 meat stew here in the Dominican Republic. Usually made with beef, pork, chicken, goat, pork sausage, pork ribs, and a bone from a smoked ham. Then lots of veggies and spices.  It is the best stew i have ever eaten.

Laufabrauð and hamborgarhryggur at Christmas
arctic char, trout, salmon, cod... fish in general is excellent
Icelandic lobster
local butter and yogurt
the soup for sprengidagur (salted meat, carrots and turnips in a pea soup.. sounds kinda "eh" but it's really good, and the holiday translates as "exploding day" so you have to eat a lot)
reindeer steaks

forget about the meatballs though.  Meatballs here are creeptastic

Oreneta I fully agree with you as for shellfish (calamarcets a la planxa, mmmmmmm :P)

And botifarra is the best kind of sausages I have ever eaten (I must confess I'm not completely neutral, I was spoonfed it in the French side of Catalonia :))

But I don't find coffee here that good. It is not bad, but too light compared with a real italian espresso. And it is hard to find a proper cappuccino or even a good macchiato :(

Oh mah! I live in France, for goodness' sake, where else can we eat *great* and I did some research on the matter ;)

(Maybe cause I could eat crème fraîche at every single meal... the scale is happy... not!)

In Romania :
Sarmale (rolled cabbage stuffed with rice and meat)

Dry Carnati Plescoi (homemade sausage from buzau, you can find it in some restaurant) ..hmmm this one sooo delicious ;)
Don't buy it from the supermarket coz it doesn't taste the same.

Zacusca (good to spread on the bread, contain Roasted red pepper, wild mushroom, some people add aubergine in it)

Salata de vinete( kind of salad, look like a thick paste, contain aubergine and onion)
