Why aren't there more electric motobikes?

I'm surprised that there aren't more electric bikes in VN. I visited Shanghai, and while they aren't rampant there either, there were enough to notice. The first time I saw one coming toweards me on a street at night, I psyched myself out because I didn't hear an engine!

Is electricity really that expensive? Is it a matter of access to outlets?

Can you imagine how quiet the roads would be if everyone had an e-bike??

Yes, you are right. Here in VN, there is very few Eco-friendly
motorbikes which are not a good quality ones. Almost every e-bikes have problem with battery sooner or gradually. Also people buy that fed up with charging:)(it's inconvenient for more people). In this busy life who care a problematic e-bike even though it's non-polluted with sound and emissions? All need speed!

I driving now already over 4 years one in the family. Yep, the batteries- need to long to charge. However, they last a whopping 40 km + for me (130 kg). 300 -400 times you can charge a set of batteries (+/- 1 year). After that you have to replace them.

Almost 30 km a day, short city hopping, the perfect toy and cheap to run.  Around 3 million VND a year on side costs (lost screws, oil, drying after flooding, tires, batteries).

Bikes need a lot of service - unless you have somebody, doing almost every week the screws, bits & pieces, oiling and spares along your routine ways -yep, they  will fall apart if not regular serviced, very quick.

The issue is that they use relatively cheap lead-acid batteries instead of Li-ion batteries that, in a capacity large enough to be useable for a motobike, cost more than the motobike. The big issue with lead-acid batteries is that once you run them flat(out of electricity) they are essentially junk and need to be replaced.

The kids riding these bikes don't pay attention to preserving the lead-acid battery and their parents get tired of constantly replacing the battery.
