Hi everyone,

have you already heard about the Expat Explorer Survey ? It's the largest survey on expat life, conducted by HSBC.

Check out the survey and share your experience of life in Vietnam  by filling in the Expat Explorer 2013 survey here.

All the best,

Julien

The survey only took 10 minutes. Go for it guys....

stumpy

Have done it. Well set out survey.

Hi all!
We just finished the survey and signed up in YouGov.
Nice survey. Don't forget to write some 'Tips' to people who want to visit or live in Vietnam :D in future!
Cheers!

Julien,

Do we get pay for filling out this thing?

Yeah, as some points, if you take that survey after joining the YouGov site :D

Budman1

Guess who's back....

Anatta

Julien, Budman (and Howie, not!)

Thank you for sending PMs urging me to re-participate. I thought that I'll keep you guys updated here, instead of sending replies through PM.

Sorry for having been away for some time. It is a combination of many factors.

One of them is that I have been busy, but more about that soon.
However, the most important reason is that I no longer live in VN. Yep, after having tried to make it work, I finally gave up and moved back to "home sweet home".

Since I don't want to air my disappointments (consciously or unconsciously) of a "bitter loser" thus spoiling the forum for everyone, I thought I just went out quietly (like I guess most of the contributors). As readers of this forum may know, it is not I have not aired my critical viewpoints of the current gov before, as well as diverse bad habits/traits of the Vietnamese people. Yes, I am born Vietnamese and can say for sure that I know more about Vietnam than most of the average Vietnamese.

The past few months have been used to move back and try to establish myself in the old country (find a job is one of the urgent tasks :(, and to my surprise, the dear car still runs fine despite many years in disuse)

Will come back to Saigon next month for a short stop-over from Washington DC to Thailand. Otherwise, no immediate plan to go back to Vietnam to live there.

I still follow the Vietnamese development. From what I see, things have not improved much, to put it mildly !!.

Anyway, good to see familiar, friendly old hands are still around here and will try to participate here as much as I can/feel meaningful.

Julien and Budman,

You guys really did it now.  Why did you do that for?  I thought I got rid of the guy...  But now, he is back.  I hope you guys are happy.

Ah. I knew I was missing some thing but not sure what I forgot. Now, that I read the loudmouth's post, I realize immediately what I wrote wrong

...Anyway, good to see familiar, friendly and not so friendly old farts...

There it is, much better now .

Anatta don't mind Howie. He's still upset at the customs folks at TSN. They didn't believe him  when he told them that the 10 iphone5's he had in his luggage where really souped up electric egg beaters......

Anatta

I think he was more upset when the customs folks, out of pity, pointed out to him that the iphone 5's he had were in reality just plastic demo mock-ups and let him pass.

Wild_1

Anatta and Budman,

I was going to welcome the two of you back on the forum.  But, since you decided to take shots at me and my smuggled gadgets, forget it!  :dumbom::dumbom:

honeyclotte

peace!

...so, you got your "American" iphones to work yet? Don't believe in those ignorant customs dudes, man. They are just jealous that you got it for half the price. Keep trying. I think the battery is just jet-lagged. Give it some days' rest and everything is OK.

To honeyclotte and others
IF you see a man mumbling to himself on the street of Can Tho or Saigon something about iphones not turning on, please send my regards

Anatta,

Aren't you supposed to be learning how to drive somewhere?   Didn't I tell you to keep driving, while you were here?  :dumbom:  But, "No...  Me like me motorbike better!  Me ride, now."  :proud

Hey, how did you get that emoticon there???

Julien!!!  Where are my emoticons?

Budman1

Howie, Anatta you guys can't post here any more till you take the dang survey. Julien said he'll give you the emoticons you've been whinning about for over a year someday Howie.

Anatta

Howie

Julien, in recognition of my special contributions to the forum, gave me access to special privileges, so I can do things like this

For God's sake, do I have to state the obvious, thus having to brag about my efforts?

Well, if you insist, the most significant is my public services in pointing out those shameless carpetbaggers, such as yourself, exploiting the good netizens of the expat forum.http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-angry027.gif

Alright Lady Anatta,

Where was that post that you had about the thousands of expat-wannabes that the Vietnamese government had hired?

Dude, I thought that was a joke...  But now, it is looking more and more like they are flooding this forum.

No, man...  I am not talking about Budman.  He has his issues, but he is not Red...

Anatta

You meant this one?

I am not joking on that one. It was reportedly widely in English speaking press

Concerning the "special access" and emoticons, I am actually pulling your chains . I don't have any special access from Julien.
It is quite easy to add emoticons other than the ones provided. They are after just gif images, so you use the same method as adding images.

Google search "animated emoticons" and go on to those sites providing free emoticons and choose the emoticon you like.

For example, I find this emoticon http://www.smileystar.com/emoticons/angels/yellow%20halo.gif from
this address
http://www.smileystar.com/emoticons/ang … 20halo.gif
which I like to use.

I right click on the image and do "Copy image address", go back to the expat forum and add it as an image.

The embedded code would look like this
