Hello everybody,

I am looking at settling in Italy and would appreciate any advice on getting a permanent residence Visa or even Italian citizenship for South Africans citizens. I'd be willing to change citizenship.

I'm not primarily looking at working in Italy and have some money to buy a house in Italy. Will being o home-owner make it easier to get a PR Visa?

I am 48 years old, single male.

I'm open to any advice from anyone. Thank you for reading this post.

I have seen people on here talking about being refused the VISA, well one way would be if you can start a business and create jobs.
With the situation they have now they may welcome your application.
So whatever you do apply to go there and help the economy.
Also if you have experience in an area they need people. Just some ideas; think out of the box.

Thank you Beaufish, I really appreciate your comments and totally agree with you - we must all add value to wherever we go. Viva!

I was born in Italy and thought of going back and do the same, start a business. Problem is I have no idea what happened in the last 30 years and how to. I know it is not as easy as in the US where I had few businesses already.
I think we need to start cooperative everywhere and stop depending on big corporations for jobs. We also need a citizen bank where the profit are used for schools health care and pensions.

What ever happened to independence?

Liberte, Egalite and Fraternite and to hell with capitalism and all other- ism  -
if only Italians could agree on something, no one could stop them.

live love and laugh !

hello beaufish,
concerning what happened in italy in the last 30 years we should write a tome... anyway as everywhere else in europe, we had a great time in '80 (moneywise)... the corruption played most of the game... '90 was ok and once we joined the eurozone the game was over... you were absolutely right about stop depending on big corporations, also cooperation will be the future.
Do you have any idea where to go in Italy? And if you do, where will you go to invest your money? Factories (even the wellknown ones as prestigious ceramics, famous leather shoes and bags brands, etc.) are closing down day after day... every day we listen to contractors committing suicide for debits, thefts and robberies increased significantly ... I know doesn't sounds good but it's a normal behavior of a suffering country. I adore to live here and I left england to come back 'cause the quality of life living either in countryside or in south still being great.
My advice is to consider the agricolture as the main resource for your investment... organic growing, quality of products, people are starting to understand and appreciate this, this is going to be the new lifestyle, health first. Any -ism- is going to an end!

hope I didn't neither bored or dis encouraged you.

take care and come to italy!

Thanks for responding. I have read some about all of this a also heard political responses. I think like other countries in the past Italy should refuse to pay debts because is endangering the well being of its citizen.
People should organize and turn things around but whomever was involved in his trap has blood on their hands.

From what I understand the same financial forces that ruined the US economy are at work in Europe. England did not join in with the Euro; that should have told everyone what was up. Rather than conquer countries with arms now they try to take over countries financially. We have a strategic position we need to use it as leverage but I am sure someone is getting rich off of it..like Berlusco.ni may have done.
Be aware who is behind this, there are wolves in sheep's clothing every were.

If you like to see an interesting documentary look up Thrive movement on you tube.., watch and learn.
Mr. Gamble created it.
when I am ready to come over I let you know. Have no idea when. Trying to sell my home now in Virginia.
Keep in touch.

hi spasieba... nice to see you're interested....
to tell you about properties it may be a bit early, but there are a lot since the recession put the owners to sell!!! there are places either in countryside or lovely houses and villas near by the sea.
the Ionian side offers beautiful beaches, very fine sand... the Adriatic side is basicly rocky, but the sea it's wonderful!
living in the middle (where I am!) it's just perfect, in 20 mins you can reach both sides... I can carry on and tell you about this lovely peninsula for ages, but I just want to let you make yourself an idea through this link...ENJOY SALENTO!
watch it carefully and don't miss anything! speak soon!

P.S.: you'd better post something to introduce yourself to the blog!;-)

take care!

hi Theolonius,
my suggestion it would look ridicule but... did you try to check out here - lnx.sudafrica.it for any enquire?
They'll surely tell you about!
Really appreciate the idea you'd like to move over here... funny enough my bestman was born in '59 in capetown from an italian couple, moved over here when he was 18, runned a very good business (as jeweller and goldsmith) since few years ago... the shop it's still open (surviving) but he's desperate to leave italy and go back to capetown, he's got a brother there...

anyway I believe you can keep both nationalities

speak soon and please keep me informed if you'll sort it

bye bye now!
