is it even possible?
I just got a phonecall from HSBC that we should go back to this issue AFTER I get a job. Before that, they don't wanna open me a bank account coz I don't have any incomes. (Actually I have monthly income but not from an employer, it comes from my husband but seems that they does not accept it:D)

Ok, I can live without a bank account, I still have my finnish account BUT.. then I face another problem. I want to open an internet/tv/phone package with GO and I was talking with them that I don't need to pay any deposit (I don't have ID yet coz I don't wanna take it yet, I hope to find job before..) BUT I have to pay by direct depit. But I can't do that if my bank is still in Finland!!

Oh, how about other banks? Do they require that you have a job before opening account?

I guess that's part of your problem, as a tourist you will have problems opening an account, finding a job and getting a contract.
Applying to get an EID signifies your intention to become a resident, just saying it is not enough.

Tourists will find it very difficult to open a bank account just about anywhere in the EU

Hi,

we have internet with Melita and we got it before we had our residency permit. We had to pay 100 EUR deposit and we receive the bill monthly by post, which we can pay by transfer or going to one of the Melita shops ( I prefer this option).
We were told that we can claim back the deposit when we have our residency sorted, but we have not done it yet.

Sorry, I express me incorrectly.. I DO wanna take the ID BUT I thought it's better to apply it AFTER I get some job, that is what my friend suggested me to do. I have sent applications and already started for looking. I just have read that they wanna know for my ID card application that what is my income, who is paying that, who is my employer and if I don't have any job yet, do they accept that my income comes from my husband?? If the bank doesn't accept that? Do I put that my husband is my employer and paying my salary? :) I have the positive intent to find a job here, pay taxes and start a good life here..

Hi Sannis,

I have been in Malta for about 5 months now and I still do not have my eResidency doc sorted yet, although, I have an appointment at the Emigration office on the 27th of August.

I also had few issues when I tried to open my bank acc here in Malta, but never related with the fact of no having an ID card yet but more in regards to getting a reference from a previous bank. In my opinion, forget about HSBC, I am still waiting for an update from them about my bank references, since 5 months ago. After having this bad experience with HSBC, I went to a BOV branch in Mellieha and I had my bank acc opened within 2-3 weeks. At the time when I applied for an acc over there, these were the docs they have requested:

- Passport
- Evidence of address in Malta
- Tax ID number
- Countries ID Card (in my case Portuguese)

With the references they got from my bank in Ireland plus the above docs, I managed to open my acc, apply for a cashlink and internet banking. The only thing they asked was to go back to the branch as soon as I have my Residency issue sorted, so they can update my details.

I hope this info can be useful for you.

Good luck!

Thanks Antonio,
that is what my other friend said also: Forgot HSBC.
She also had problems to open account.
I'll try with BOV if I have better luck with them.
