Employment/ Income insurance?

Post new topic

boltonboy

Good afternoon all,

I wondered if anyone on the forum had taken out any income protection insurance.

I a due to start work in SA, living in Bahrain.  I have spoken to a couple of international companies in the UK.  They seem to be offering only critical illness cover/life insurance.

What I was really after was (like I had in the UK) if the employment ceased (made redundant/job ceased to exist) I would get a monthly benefit, normally until I was working again (max 12 Months).

Has anyone had any dealings with this?  Also what if I should (hopefully not) die whilst over in SA and getting my body home?

Thanks Paul.

I haven't looked into income protection but your medical insurance should cover getting your body home. Read the small print. I know mine is covered.

Try income protection back in UK too.

jo,

Income protection doesn't cover outside UK.

My medical insurance will be covered by my employer. so at present don't have any details.

Ill keep searching.

As an expat, I would really doubt such protection for income exists in Bahrain for expats, because your visa is tied to your employment and if your employment stops, you will be asked to leave the country. You can of course come back on a tourist visa (as a British person, you can stay here for up to 3 months on a visit visa) and keep living here on your own means, but technically you are still a tourist, therefore you will not be able to keep a bank account here.
