Moving to cairo...

Post new topic

Cathye

Hi All,

Now it is for sure... we are moving to Cairo.. After 5 years in Dubai my husband has accepted a new role and has started last Sunday in Cairo.
I will be joining him in June and have so many questions !

This will be the 4th country we will be living in and I really looking forward to it !
I really enjoyed Dubai but I will be glad to leave the artificial way here.

Now a first list of questions and a I really appreciate your help :

My husband has started his work and I will be joining him some time in July .
Until I arrive and before we rent a big house he would like to rent a 1bed or studio furnished  apartment  for 3 months.
We have been told that this is not realy easy to find.   He is working in GIZA.   Would you know any place he can go ?

Also, we will be looking for a 3/4 bed house from june/july   not to far from Giza.. Where shall I ask. Any good real estates agent ?

And last question for today.  We have 2 cars here that we would have love to take them  with us but also we were told that we will have to pay a lot of taxes. As we own the cars for more than one year is there a way to do it?

Thanks a lot in advance

And I am sure I will have a lot more questions soon ...

Merci
Cathye

:unsure I have never heard that in Cairo there are studios!
Here people since ancient times, love to build, to sell, to buy, to rent big homes with reception, bathroom(s), dinning, kitchen,bedroom(s)...
The smallest flat that I could hear about has 2 bedrooms, but maybe exists smaller!
In addition, Giza is not an expensive area, comparing with Maadi, Zamalek and others! Here the rent is not very expensive, comparing with Dubai!
For help, ask a member of the forum, Judge85, he has good connections, and knows details, people, agents!
About cars, really I don t know how much you have to pay and how difficult it is to carry them here, but my opinion, sell them and buy here others! Don t complicate your brain, and get mad with their regulations and laws!

Thanks a lot for you replies. I have followed your advices and sold one car :(  and will sell the other one when I will be leaving.  We also solved the problem of the temp accommodation and found a house in October City;  Ideally we would like to find a place in Al Azizia. So you know a place ( minimum 3 bed available from July  let me know.)
My husband is now in Cairo for the past 2 weeks  and love it !  I am really looking forward to join him.  I will be coming this weekend to see him :).

I have another questions : we will be coming with our 2 dogs ( labrador). How is life for dogs in Cairo. Are they welcomed.  here in Dubai it is a bit difficult as they are forbidden every where.

A bientôt

Cathye,

Did you get these questions answered? I have a black lab and am considering my options if I accept a job in Cairo so I'm very interested in the feedback for this question.

Thank you for asking it...

i have no idea f dogs are allowed on ur flight...but having dogs isnt such a problem in cairo... they re walking ther dogs everywhere, esp in maadi and rehab city... dont worry about that..

backtothesuture is right.  I live in Maadi and there are three pet supply stores and 2 vets within walking distance of my flat!  The housekeepers treat pets quite nice and most even walk them each day while the owners are working.  When I lived in a different flat my Egyptian neighbor had two German Shephards that he worked with every evening in the grassy area outside of our building, though I'm told it's not traditional for Egyptians to allow dogs inside their home.

Life for dogs here is better than a part of Egyptian life.
And dogs are everywhere. And cats...

Hi Cathye,

First allow me to welcome you in your second home Egypt, I advice you to stay in Maadi or Zamalek, they are the best.
About the apartment, I will leave my house with my wife and my children for 2 years and searching for a family to rent it, our house is in Maadi, very clean, in a very nice place, 5 minutes to the ring road and 15 minutes to 25 minutes to Giza according the traffic.
If you are interesting please inform me soon.
