A letter from ARMS .........

I received a call from the advertising Company dealing with our advertising campaign on the buses this morning. He wanted to arrange a meeting that I actually thought was to discuss how many buses we wanted this next month as our Campaign ends, or should have ended on the 12th September.

I honestly did not expect to hear the following:

It turns out that ARRIVA have removed our adverts.

The following is the letter received by our advertising company:

*****

RE: 'Up In Arms' advertising campaign

I draw your reference to recent communications relating to the above subject and reports in the media pertaining to this group.

As expressed already, this Company has highlighted its concern specifically due to the nature and content of this advert. Whilst it may be viewed that, 'contractually Arriva is not bound to reject any advertising'; common sense prevails that due to the 'political and controversial message' that was being articulated, which content concerns the Principal i.e Ministry of Transport and directly our relationship with our Principal.

Consequently we have removed these adverts from our buses, and I kindly instruct you to inform your client accordingly.

May I also suggest that with immediate effect you will obtain prior permission from Arriva regarding material of a similar nature.

Sincerely

Arriva Malta

My questions are who pulled the plug. Arriva or the Ministry of Transport and I intend to find out.

I am cross because this IS censorship!!!

Censorship or a company exercising its rights as to whom it grants advertising? Was asking for trouble in the first place, talk about provocation. Wrong strategy and now caught out.

Para 5 of Bus Ads Malta states:

Rejection of advertising orders - Bus Ads Malta reserves the right to reject advertising orders – including those already confirmed and legally binding – which infringe laws, official regulations or acceptable morals, which are not in accordance with the principles of Bus Ads Malta or Arriva Malta on the grounds of their content, origin, technical form
or quality standards, or whose publication is unreasonable for Bus Ads Malta or Arriva Malta.
Any such rejection will be notified to the client immediately. In this case the payment obligation for the services in question lapses. All further claims are expressly excluded.

i have to say it was a brave move - albeit maybe a little foolish and blind - but hey it took Arriva or whoever a long tome to stop it....

Whoever came up with that strategy should be questioned.
First of all a lot of money may have been wasted.
Secondly, as I used to ask people 'how do you get anything from people that you make angry'?
Answer, you don't. Keep them sweet is the way.
Thirdly, stop beating people over the head, especially when the people you are trying to persuade don't understand (or want to) and cannot see anything in it for themselves.
When negotiating and that means compromising, all those involved have to gain or retain something.
