Residency requirement for full-time student outside Ecuador?

Post new topic

Hi, I'm considering moving to Ecuador. I heard residency requirement is 90 days per year for the first 2 years etc. and breaching that rule will result in loss of the PR status. I myself have no problem meeting the requirement, but we have a kid who is applying for college admissions next year. If I include him in the residency application, will he be exempted from the residency requirement while he's full-time college student in the States? If so, I guess he'll be expected to comply with the residency requirement once he graduates, and if he finds a job outside Ecuador then he's sure to lose the status anyway, right? Finally, how long is the Ecuador PR status valid for? At what frequency is the status renewable/renewed? Thanks for any advice.

Speak with or exchange e mails with the Visa office in Cuenca.
Their English is very good and they'll tell you exactly what you can or can not do under current rules. They're easy to find on the web and reply pretty quickly.
This approach will eliminate a lot of pain and wasted time on your end.

Thanks for your advice. After thinking it over, I've decided that my kid can visit me on tourist visa and there's no need for him to have residency visa (he'll lose the status anyway), so I won't include him in my application.
