Dangers of Sleeper bus travel in Vietnam

Many backpackers travel by sleeper bus in Vietnam because it is cheap and saves them accommodation costs.
I prefer to call them coffins on wheels.
It never seems to make the international press but instead only appears in the Vietnam language press hence my relying on my partner to keep me informed with whats happening.
We had three bus fires this week, fortunately with no lose of life this time.

Totally agree with you on that comment, mate.  By coffins on wheels, I mean for the people riding in the buses as well as for the people riding motorbikes outside the buses.

I'm not really a fan of any buses since there's some unwritten LAW that says bus drivers must drive at 2x the speed limit MINIMUM, never sleep, take over the entire road while driving and run over every motorbike they see.

I've considered building an egg launcher so I can egg the next bus that runs me off the road.:D  Happened to me twice already.

But thanks for the heads up on sleeper buses.  I would recommend the train as a safer alternative if you're a backpacker exploring the country; they do have sleeper cars.  Train engineers aren't pressured to rush to their destination or stop every 10 meters to pick up a fare.  (A little sarcasm in my measurements).

Agree with you. Not only that....when travelling by boat i feel not safe also. So how we do now? At home all the time? Never travel?

Maybe we have fate, if we are not lucky, even we are at home, we still have accident. So just enjoy life..dont worry a lot....:D But many times my heart almost fall down bcz on the crazy bus or boats

Don't know if Phuong Trang (Futa) has sleeper buses or not, but their regular buses are OK with me, and they certainly don't speed. I recommend them for any reasonable-length trip through Vietnam.

Last time I drove up Highway 1 near Phan Thiet, I saw a bus overtake 5 other vehicles whilst going through a small town, total maniacs.

Yes.  If your photo is already on the web/Internet you just let this browser point to the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) where the picture physically resides on a computer server.  Kind of like how your put photos on your local computer under the C drive, i.e. C:\Users\mark\Pictures\busbuster.jpg.

To do that you first go to that picture (google works if you just need a generic photo) and right click, then "copy image URL".  Then on this forum when you "Post", there is an icon under the "Message" that says Image:  It's located to the left of the happy face emoticon.  You can click that and then paste your image URL into the pop-up.

Alternatively, you can just type in "".

So if the URL for the picture is "https://www.expat.com/yadi-yadi.jpg", then the code should be written as
"(img)https://www.expat.com/yadi-yadi.jpg(/img)"
Replace the ( ) with [ ] because if I write it with the [ ], this program/post will execute it and show an error because the yadi-yadi.jpg image is an example that doesn't exist.

I ll have a go tommorrow thanks
