What is Oktoberfest? (I guess some festival in October)

Oktoberfest is a Bavarian (German) fall festival that lasts more than two weeks. I was at the festival for one day two years ago in Stuttgart. It was amazing with all the food, traditional dancing and enough BEER to float a battleship. I recommend you add it to your bucket list especially in Stuttgart for the Mercedes and Porsche Museums.

An excuse to drink beer, brought to you by our German friends.  It hasn't caught on in Việt Nam because Vietnamese men don't need any reason/date/event to drink beer and thereby claiming the top honors out of all Southeast Asian countries with 2.6 billion liters per year.

Unfortunately many of the men are too stupid and still drive themselves home after getting drunk (You can read this as: if you drive drunk you are stupid).  This afternoon while I was driving my motorbike, I saw a guy obviously drunk driving at a high rate of speed, probably twice my speed, and clipped a second motorbike.  The drunk guy lost control and I watched in slow motion as his mangled body flipped over and over.  He laid motionless and only until after some passerby rolled him over to see if he was okay or not, did I see his bloody torn up face.

But!  They also have German food and music.  And pretty Fräuleins in traditional costumes (not sure if you'll get to see that in Việt Nam though) so just watch it live on the Internet.

I think like most celebrations, it's spread throughout the world as a cultural/national identity more than the original meaning.  For example, St. Patrick's Day has really become a "I'm Irish and proud of it Day".  So Germans or German descents get to be proud of themselves during Oktoberfest.  For people who aren't of Irish heritage or German heritage, it's just an excuse to party/drink beer at O'Malley's or Hofbräu Bierhaus.

I guess I am stupid cuz I can't get drunk if I don't drink, however, driving drunk is a different story.

Oops...should be "drive drunk".  Thanks for catching that.  I'll edit my original post.
