Can anyone explain why the list of post on the forum will show they are "Today's" post for days on end?

bta87

Good question for the mods?

bta87

Yeah, where are the police when you really need them. :)

jakejas

All we have to do is to start to go off topic, and they will show up. :D

bta87

Do I hear an "amen"?

bta87

Amen!

bta87

But seriously I think i figured it out. It only reflects the date of the most recent reply, not the date of the original post. I might have been a post from the 20th century, but if you chime in now it reads "today". Am I correct?

bta87

I think you're the smartest guy in the room right at this moment

or the only one that cares :)

bta87

I can assure you it comes much closer to the latter. It just use to get to me, I would jump on the forum and be all excited we had a new conversation only to realize I've been reading these post since forever.

You guys are obviously bored.  What's the URL at the top of your address bar say?

Does it look the same as this one?

https://www.expat.com/forum/viewforum.php?id=219

This is what I have bookmarked to read all the posts in Vietnam, regardless of what city.  I do have a good amount of posts with the timestamp that is "today" but beyond that, it says "yesterday" along with the timestamp.

I'm wondering if you have a larger area that you're reading posts from, .i.e. Asia instead of just Vietnam?

bta87

Tran,
I thought that was the only reason your on here...because your bored.:D

bta87

Tran,
Maybe your URL reads different than mine. Go to "Heavy whipping cream" for example. On mine, just seconds ago it reads today, yet you go to the post and even the first reply is from yesterday.
So, how can the post read "today". By the way I'm still bored, how about you:)

Nope ... just sharing

bta87

Let kindness prevail. Imagine forums that allow sharing. What a novel idea. Hey I'm all for it, bored or not. To be honest, I do spend much of my time on here because I am bored.

Finally the sun went down and was able to go outside and enjoy the weather a bit.  So...I did check out the Heavy Whipping Cream thread...this one by charmavietnam, right?

https://www.expat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=311215

I read the top/first post as originated on 2013-10-13 13:14:33 while the bottom-most/newest post stamped Today 13:23:16.  Seems a bunch of posts went back and forth today, so a hot thread.

So all you see is "today" only?  You don't see any old dated posts?

Try clicking on yourself and then click "show all posts".  Does all of your old posts have date stamps or do they all say "today" as well?

bta87

Indeed, and hopefully now you see the point. The OP may well have been on any day. The "today" seems to reflect the date of the latest "reply" if you will. While I would think "today" would be an OP.
Not a big issue, just something to ponder when it is raining and I'm bored. Ah the life of a retired expat!!!!

Ok my nap is over now. Glad progress has been made. Now I'm hungry. Yes the life of a retired expat.

bta87

Solo, your funny! Was the nap good? This may become the longest running thread and most exciting
for a long time to come!:D

Great nap as I slept like a baby, woke up with shellack in my eyes and wet pants!

It's because many people dig up old posts and answer them (not realizing that the original poster may have "left the building" a long time ago.)

It's the year 70 and if you listen carefully you can hear the Roman soldiers marching

bta87

Solo,
Why the wet pants? Did the catheter fall out....or? Retirement reminds me of the old song "slip, slip,
slipping away. But it sure is fun though isn't it. Yet there are major issues we must solve and who better to solve them them the wisdom of the elderly. No about this dating issue, I think Tran found the cause. People dragging up old post e.g from yesterday and replying to them, not knowing there ancient posts e.g yesterday. This is why we always see "Today". Gosh this is get confusing isn't it. I think Tran is organizing a task force to look into this dilemma. And you don't think I'm bored stiff.
Nap time!

Note the timestamps on the posts.  We in VN are in GMT+0700 while the USA ranges from GMT-0700 to GMT-0400.  The timestampts on this forum are inconsistently implemented; some honor our personal locale, some don't.

I think to make life easier for software engineers, the *whole world* should be on the same time.
