I have seen on the internet that VIOP services such as Skype and Viber are illegal in Kuwait.  How does one communicate with their family members that are not residing in Kuwait then?  Here in Hungary that is all I use when I call back to California to speak with my brother.

Everyone here use Skype and Viber lol

You can d/l magic jack for free on your phone and use it to call the states as long as you have internet.

Its not restricted in Kuwait.
Viper,Skype, WhatsApp , BBM (now available for iPhone users)..
All you need net connection and you are on air :)

A lot of forbidden things are done by everyone here, let's put it that way...

Papa,It's false alarm :)
You may use viber or skype anytime.

Cheers

Skype is restricted, you cannot download it when you are in Kuwait.  If you already have it on your phone / laptop then it will work just fine (but without updates).

I had no idea BBM was available for iPhone. Your just made my day!

the skype website is blocked in kuwait; yes. however, if you are net-savvy you will know how to find the installation for the program via the million and one mirrors online. that is if u use a laptop. for smartphones, its much easier.

with viber u will get messages that sometimes the service is blocked, which just means close the app and try again. no biggie.

everything works fine here; skype is completely blocked (as a service) in UAE and Viber is blocked completely in KSA.

Or just use a VPN service and the doors will be wide open for everything.

That's cool to know.  I use Viber and Skype all the time.

OR install the opera browser on your smart phone as it bypasses almost all blocks in Kuwait on websites.

Ribosom

legacy, if you are talking about Opera Mini (as it uses Opera proxy servers), I found out that sometimes they block it - at least Viva does. I was using it to keep my data traffic low, but they blocked the Opera proxy servers most of the time.

I did not know that Riba :S Viva are getting smarter! switch carriers :) i realized that viva is not as widespread as zain and wataniya, meaning that their service drops a lot.

Ribosom

Actually the 20GB/month limit they used to impose has been removed in favor of 5GB/day so limiting the data traffic is not longer that important. :) I am talking about their mobile routers here.

If you access Skype as an app (on iPad or any Windows 8 computer), no issue. That's for the same reason it works on smartphones. However, if you have it downloaded as a program on your computer, it will usually get blocked by your internet provider.

Hi all,
As for Skype, Yes indeed its official website is blocked in Kuwait. but as usual, there's backdoor to download the application and install it on yr PC. you can create new ID and go online.
Notice that in case you forgot your password you won't be able to restore it as the website is blocked! so you will need to created a new account.
For iPhone users, you can download the application from the appstore. no big deal as far as i know.
