volunteer with children

THD with his run for the baby's inspired me to look into volunteering with street children and orphanes in Quang Ngai City. Unfortunately because of the flooding my job has kept me in Da Nang. So I thought I would google and see what was nearby. I was at 1st amazed with all the opportunities until I started reading them. They wanted you to pay a fee to volunteer. Then there were also stories about a lot of these places renting children just to run a scam. Part of me was disturbed that people would use children in this manner. This brings up questions about how you find a real charity to give to?

I remember an older thread with a whole list of legit places to volunteer. On my phone right now, will search and link it when I get access to my laptop.

I also looked into this when I first came here, ( I used to give cash to a retarded woman , with a face deformity , but after hearing her sister, ( retarded also, but still able to work ), was possibly taking the money ), I would give her food/soap, etc, then I discovered the whole village, ( and Govt ), were actually looking out for the family. ( had even built them a small house ).
