Racism in Kuwait

Post new topic

NoodlesandNeedles

Hello,
I am a Egyptian with Uk passport. I have heard some stories of racism in Kuwait. How common is it in reality & is it just exaggerated?
I start work in Kuwait in January. Will my Race & dual nationality affect my experience?
I see also some apartments are listed as westerners& expats only - does that exclude me if I am not white?
Thank you.

Anyone?

Even though you have a UK passport you will still be considered Egyptian but you will still qualify as an expat. As long as your not Kuwaiti you shouldn't have any problems renting.

and what's wrong with being Egyptian ???????????

NoodlesandNeedles

Nothing!! It is great to be egyptian!! I'm just confused as how nationality seems so important there. I discovered My salary for example is much higher than my friends who moved straight from egypt!! This is makes me worry why they treat different races & nationalities so different. Then I see the ad for flat that says 'only westerners' & I don't know what this means for me& my family.
Did you find any problem as Egyptian in Kuwait?

Also, Why Kuwaitis can't find it easy to rent in their own country???!

Kuwaiti owners discriminate towards other Kuwaitis because they will have a hard time getting rid of them if there's a problem but they know expats are afraid and can be blacklisted easily so they won't make problems for the owners.

today racism is every where on the planet.we just cant help it

NoodlesandNeedles

Ace, sure there is racism in the Uk, but a companyCANNOT legally pay someone half because of nationality!  This makes me wonder about attitudes there&if this move is a good idea.

you are right, but this is Kuwait, they will pay more to westerners than us.as they according to me want to achive organisational diversity,or some employers are pleased to have them.

but if you are working in an international company, this will most likly not be the case.

i would recommend you to talk mostly in english as it seems to be better treated.
