Learning Thai

I plan on moving to Thailand in a few months and wanted to get familiar with the Thai language. I have accessed some free learning sites and also gone to Youtube with my efforts. I have not found what I need. Does anyone have any suggestions on doing some basic learning? Is it better to be in Tahiland and then learn? Any help will be appreciated.

What exactly are you looking for? There are indeed plenty of resources out there for learning Thai.

I think it is easier to learn "speaking Thai" in Thailand since you are surrounded by native speakers to practice on.

A good place to start before you get here is probably learning to read Thai a little. Despite the strange letters and sounds its not too hard. It should give you a leg up in your learning.

This is a list of Thai Learning Resources I have personally found useful. Most of them are FREE!!

Thank you for the reply and thank for the resources.

Thai for Beginners by Benjawan Poomsan Becker is a great book to start learning Thai from. There is also an accompanying CD. Looks like you can get it on Amazon.

I'd recommend trying to learn to read and write it right away. It will help you loads down the long run.

Every language seems difficult in the beginning, Thai language has its own tonal secrets, but practice makes a man perfect, I totally agree with "thetefldon" its easier to learn speaking Thai while surrounded by locals in Thailand.
