ok so i am hearing good and bad about the health care there as far as cost. my company is providing me insurance, but should i try and buy additional health insurance to help with the high charges of going to the doc over there?

You know, some details would help us in answering you.  Are you getting a VIP Class policy or a Class C policy?  Or something in between?

As long as it is class B or above, you are fine.  It is dirt cheap actually, with insurance.  You will probably pay between 20 and 30 Riyals for a consultation.

P.S. Just read your profile.... your daughter would hate it here, as nearly all 14 year old Western girls would, if moving here at that age.  And you will get class A for sure, maybe even a higher class, such as Gold or something.  As I said, it will be dirt cheap, healthcare, that is.

To add to what Trapezius said above, each medical insurance policy has a class that indicates the hospitals covered, the coverage kind and financial limits.

First off, you have to look for the type & spectrum of facilities covered by the insurance card you are going to get. If you aren't happy with that, ask your company to upgrade it (say A=> VIP or VIP=>VIP+). If that doesn't help, go ahead and buy your own insurance.
