Weather in Malta

well, I have to say I don't see many good roads in Malta, there are some that are good and new, near the area where you take the ferry for going to gozo (cant remember the name), but around the Sliema area where I live not really for example.. just recently near my house they did some works from Enemalta, after fixing the cable, they put just one layer of concrete, some sandstone/pebbles on top and that's it. I think I am too optimistic to hope that they will put some proper new asphalt. Now every time it rains there's a lovely mud coming off since they didn't fully complete the job. But I have a feeling they will leave it like that. Better standard than in UK? I don't think so. (and ive lived in UK too).

weather wise is generally pleasant, there's pretty much sun every day and there's more humidity inside the house than outside. they are not really obsessed with weather like in UK, to answer your question....

Trust me. the amount of money spent on infrastructure  from 1988 to 2013  (the roads system in particular) in Malta is a lot more than from what they have done here in the UK. you go anywhere in the UK apart from the London area and the standards of the roads  and the Amount of Pot hole`s and the lack of cleaning the Drainage system has noise dived considering the amount of money UK motorist have to pay in Taxation on Fuel and car duties etc etc.
Its terrible it damages your tyres and wheels and they damage the wall of the tyre structure.
Where I live we have had some real differences in weather from some very cold weather down to -18 to lots of rainfall and mass flooding and because of this the roads have been of a very poor standard.
Malta has a done a lot over the last few years to improve its new system

alright, well we have lived in London 3 years so I cannot comment for the countryside really.. just saying that is not that better here when it comes to roads. I had higher expectations before moving here, gotta say that

Hi pongo1976, the government might have spent a lot of money on infrastructures as you said, but here in the area where I live, it's a nightmare when it rains. I live in Balzan/Birkirkara, and if it rains for a couple of hours or less, don't stop, I can assure you that you are hardly able to walk on the streets. There's some much water around that you can't even cross to the other side of the road without getting all soaked and wet. I wish I could post you a video I did on Tue while I was going on the bus from Birkirkara to Msida. When I showed that video to my friends, they thought I was on a boat lol.

yer having a laugh Pongo - roads and infrastructure better in MALTA - I DONT THINK SO.

The one thing i do know for sure they dont build anything here properly especially roads etc -i worked in road and infrastructure construction for 20 years and believe me they dont have a the first clue.

I viewed the video Montonos, here down in Gloucester on the banks of the river Severn (and my home town Tewkesbury) we are all to familiar with those conditions. But it was very amusing, I have experienced those conditions when I was in Malta in November 2012.

I also like the banter on here, again its amusing, on a lighert note, the point I am trying to make is that standards have slipped a bit where I live as to the repairing of the roads, but the major roads in Malta have improved quite a bit, I remember going on the old Malta buses when I first visited Malta in 1988, and the major roads were unbelievable, I can remember huge pot holes, but one thing is for sure, the old Malta buses then had a better and more reliable time table, and the bus drivers were a lot more helpful than they are on the arriva service, and it was a brilliant experience exploring the island on those buses.
The roads and the bus service around Dingy Cliffs are rubbish.

I cannot comment on how Malta was back in 1988 pongo, coz I wasn't here at that time, but I can tell you I am slightly disappointed with the state of some of the roads here in Malta, that's for sure.
I know this is not just in Malta, as it happens everywhere, but in some areas, it's a joke! I also know that some of the Arriva buses are probably not well serviced in regards to its suspensions, but if your not careful and hold tied while in the bushes, you might risk of being thrown out of the bus with so much bumping 

In my opinion, the issue of the roads getting flooded when it rains, it should have been sorted long time ago. From what I have been told by some Maltese people, this happens every single year after some constant rain.

believe me Mantonas we have been here for the last 5.5 yrs and every year this happens without fail and nothing gets done...... the drainage systems here cannot cope

Yeah toon, exactly! It's surprising why just recently they've done some work in B'kara area by putting some water drainage pipes on the main streets. Still, it will take a while until the infrastructure and the drainage kick in.

We were in Malta over the summer for my sister's wedding, the roads were terrible imo, nothing compared to here in Ireland and the UK in my experience ! The new road going up and down that big hill on the way to Mellieha was pretty good, as you'd expect it was very new. Its all down to funding though, I was thinking Ireland was the same 15-20 years ago, its only money from Europe that lets small countries develop and maintain decent roads

Yup they were plopping cement into the potholes around us a couple of weeks ago cars were just driving over them and pulling the cement straight out and then it deluged removing the rest. Some of the major roads are ok but our suspension would disagree on most others!
