Hello, everyone. I would like to introduce myself! My name is Eugene, and I shall be pleased in the coming months getting to know you all and the forum.

At the present time, I am living in Norfolk (U.K) But I shall be moving to Hoi An in May 2014 after my retirement. I work as an Visual Artist (free-Lance) specialising in Media promotions within the Leisure industry.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and please do get in touch and say hello!

Welcome.  Freelancing in Cần Thơ doing software.  Maybe we could compare notes.

Hi Chris, Thank you for getting in touch. Yes! it would be great to share information. How long have you lived/worked in  Cần Thơ ? and In which area of computer software? Web design!

I design and edit in visuals and sound from the pre production stage to the final production, mainly for clients in the leisure industry(nightclub/bars) in DvD or computer formats for display on monitors, projector's, computers, for internal promotions. And for posters, flyer`s etc. Also for insertion into web pages.

Mods, the "link under review" thing is a little hysterical.  Someone could evaluate it for porn or spam in two seconds flat.

@lef: In the USA I was mostly a middle tier guy, servers usually, I very rarely did user interfaces except test harnesses to test my stuff.  A lot of cryptography, DRM, security too.  Most of the protected content in Media Player was my work.

One reason I left was that I didn't want to interview anymore, I was headed for a meltdown, and having spent most of my career writing for Windows (I learned to code for it before anyone ever heard of it) and ten years at MS, I didn't like Windows or MS anymore.  I regard the Aero shell as an abomination and having done a lot of work making software usable by the disabled, I was livid when MS completely dropped that initiative with that Vaseline-on-the-lens look in Vista.

So I come here intending to retire and make money investing in land (which goes very well despite the current doldrums), however a year of doing nothing was like being dead so I got a MacBook Pro and taught myself iPhone and iPad program, switched from C++ to Objective C, did a few apps for the AppStore to establish a portfolio (see NotifEye for Facebook and Photo World), and hung out my shingle.

Right now I am doing four Mac apps for a company in England (I learned Mac just for these) and a database design for a company in Perth.  More iOS work suppose to come from Sydney this month.

I'm a total browser klutz, I usually farm out graphics work to other people, I can do very clean front ends and I'm good at usability and keeping users engaged, but I'll never get a Best In Show for the look.  I'm a data guy, not an artist, and I can barely do simple HTML.  I will be learning PHP for the database project for a clean division, the browser guy should not have to learn the database scheme, he will see and send images and text.

My own ideas are around integrating many social networks, filling the gaps in their functionality.  NotifEye alerts you when someone (anyone) mentions a search term.

I'll send you contacts in private mail.
