hello everyone,

Syria's most chemical weapons to be destroyed off Malta's coast.

a colleague of mine just shared this one http://www.maltatoday.com.mt/en/newsdet … t-20140110 and i think everyone should be aware and outraged about it.

Be vigilant and aware, God bless,
Gabrio

If you read it................

Foreign Affairs Minister George Vella said that as far as he knows no vessels laden with toxic chemicals are expected to pass through Maltese waters.

The minister said he is not aware whether the vessels would touch a corner of the Maltese territorial waters, but nonetheless, in such a case, "it would not pose a threat if it simply passes through."
"The US vessel will destroy the toxic chemicals by hydrolysis in a titanium tank. The process removes the chemical's toxicity and renders it harmless into a normal chemical. The only worry would be if the container breaks and if it is inhaled by the people," Vella explained.

Well and do you believe it? I bet the us paid a hefty sum for the maltese to take that in. Personally will never ever touch again water in here. The island is so small that risk of something going bad and arriving to people is very high.

Do u honestly think nothjng will go in the water.....really?? V bad for maltese tourism too which is number one industry here and should also have more development in a good way. Not just doing buildings that are then empty.
Sorry for the rant but thats how i see things here....

These things are usually done in countries like Haiti for a monetary compensation.

gabrio, read this before going to defcon 1.

The process will be conducted at sea but not disposed of at sea.

Extract: It does so using chemical hydrolysis - mixing the hazardous chemicals with reagents such as bleach, water, or sodium hydroxide. The process will result in about 1.5 million gallons of toxic effluent that can't be used as a chemical weapon and will be disposed of commercially.

I would also suggest that the siting of this work is to minimise risk on relatively calm waters. Any leakage, if it were to happen would be contained within the sealed working area. Only the workers will be exposed to minimal risk.
I am confident that Health & Safety measures will be followed precisely and should not be compared with H&S measures  (or lack of them) existant upon Malta. There is no comparison.  :)

You are more at risk from the untreated sewage that is washed out to sea every time Malta floods!
