Hi everyone, I'm and English speaking person working just outside Narvik, I don't speak Norwegian but am starting lessons very soon. Are there any other Brits living in this area? I've been here 2 months and am hoping to move my family here in the next 12 months. It's a little difficult missing my family but hopefully it will be a better life for us all in the future.
All the Norwegian people I meet seem friendly, all the people I work with speak very good English.

Hello and welcome,

What brought you to Narvik? It's a little bit out of the way. I know some people from there and some people who have lived there. They seemed to like it but didn't want to live there. I get the impression people from there are friendly at least. I think most Norwegians think that Northerners are friendlier than much of the rest of Norway. As well as having a reputation for swearing more!

The people I work with are very good at swearing in English. I was offered a job and decided it had to be worth going just for the experience of working and living inside the Arctic circle, the weather is no problem, the dark takes getting used to but at least we are getting some daylight now, I've been told another 2 weeks and I should see the sun. I love the snow so all's good so far, I just miss my family though.
